I am feeling guilty about asking questions to 2 members, so I thought I would open it up for some answers. Got this Frankensaw 2171 with a 2171flywheel side and a husky 372 clutch side crankcase. Its got a 372/2172 xtorq cylinder. Now I know the 2171 came with the 371 cylinder, which is the old OE cylinder. My question is can the 2171 case accept the 372 xtorq cylinder or would some modifications have to be done to it to accept such a cylinder? Dont know which Husky 1/2 they put on there but I suppose its an xtorq case 1/2. Anyway I can tell? I love messing with Huskies because they keep you so damn confused!! And you learn so much about what can and cant go on them. Why didnt they rename the 372 xtorq to a 374xp, seems simple enough to me...

Hmm with that amount of missmatched parts I’d do a test fit of the cylinder and see if it sits flat or if it wobbles... then you know you have to clearance the extensions. I’ve never tried putting an xtorq cylinder on a older OE chassis. Usually I stick with the OE saws/cylinders/carb/intake tract if I have a choice cause I prefer them over the xtorq versions.

The cases are different where the cylinder extension fits as far as depth, you can use Xtorq cases for a.oe cylinder but not the other way around without doing modifications. The cylinder extension will bottom out on the OE cases before sitting flush.

I knew you'd be along shortly!! Lol. So what your saying Dustin @dustinwilt68 is the 2171 case is the same as a 371 case??? Didnt know if they manufactured the 2171 cases like a 372 xtorq to accomodate the difference in cylinders and make it a 2172...

All Xtorq cases have the deeper lip, the 2171 case is the same fitment wise as a 371/372 OE. Trim the cylinder extension enough on the Xtorq and it will fit on any case, just make sure it doesn't bottom out and leave you w air leak or a broken cylinder base when tightening it up.

Its already attached but it came that way and have no idea why they parted the saw out. Its tight, no rocking but cant figure out if only sealer was put on the bottom of the cylinder. Guess I could pull it to find out the story to see if the botton of the extensions had been messed with... why me?? This was supposed to be an easy build....

It can be done without doing anything to the cylinder.ive done it with a 365 XT and OE cases.theres a ledge on the OE cases where it can touch.i used a small bur bit and shaved some material off that ledge without a base gasket.if a base gasket was used it's possible ya wouldn't have to to do anything or shave off a very little bit.without one I probably took off 0.040.

So thats what he probably did. Should measure squish, that will tell me whether they did it right or put some xtra sealer under the cylinder. Do you know what squish came out on yours? @brad ruch

I believe it was around 0.020 with no gasket.i had also ground the lower transfers to match the case.

Maybe put sealer on there because the case 1/2's didnt match up? Whats the normal squish for a 372?
