Sort of seems like a lot of effort for a saw that was such a good snag. You should cut your losses and sell...
it's the same problem we face fixing Huskys heathed handles. There it's the base layer in the handle that has the heating elements attached to it. I'll do a search for heat shrink and see if there is some around .070. I checked with Makita and they dont sell just the covering. You have to buy the whole handle and that's $89. Maybe a thin layer over the ribbed like someone already suggested?
Ross put you up to that?Sort of seems like a lot of effort for a saw that was such a good snag. You should cut your losses and sell...
I figured Tor! I'll clean it up and find a piece of heat shrink tubing and put it on. Should be fine!it's the same problem we face fixing Huskys heathed handles.
You got several options, Dan. If it was me I would just fix it so it will continue to work.

If you filled in any gouges and low spots with some silicone caulk before applying the shrink wrap it should turn out to look very nice.I figured Tor! I'll clean it up and find a piece of heat shrink tubing and put it on. Should be fine!
That's the plan. Just have to find the right shrink tube!If you filled in any gouges and low spots with some silicone caulk before applying the shrink wrap it should turn out to look very nice.
Ya $89 for this one plus shipping.I am facing a similar problem on my 7910H, luckily the handle is till available new, was fairly reasonable in price, mine just is worn and still works but I wanted to make it like new.
I would spend the money on a new handle you cheapass yinzer.Ross put you up to that?

swap to Husky and you won't be robbed againCheap is right. A STIHL 661R Arctic handle runs about $300USD last time I priced one.

Go over and ask yota what he used. It seemed like a decent productThat's the plan. Just have to find the right shrink tube!
Ooh he was all secretive and hot upset when someone posted what he had been using, lol
Looks great Dan!Finally got around to installing the shrink tubing on my Makita 5001 heated handle. I bought 39mm 3 to 1 tubing from Amazon. It was a *b-word to get on but the results are worth the effort. Ill see how well the heat transmits through the extra layer.![]()
