You’re measuring the bore. It’s the Venturi that’s different.

I need to correct myself. 17.46mm is the Venturi size of the 044/046 carbs.
All of the HD series carbs have a 22.3mm bore.
The 029 carb(HD18) has a 16.75mm Venturi.
The first 2 pics are of a HD16 carb.
The last 2 pics are of a HD18 carb.

There is also the 361 carb, which is an HD and much smaller Venturi. IIRC, the throttle plate is the same as the other HD carbs, but the choke plate is smaller. A lot of work, but may make it more suitable for small saw conversions (ie the 026).

If it’s a smaller jet your after, you can solder it shut and drill it smaller.

Just if your going to buy a 'micro drill' set, don't do what I did and get the cheapest set on ebay you can find. Buy something decent, they will all drill but the cheap sets of say 10-20 sizes only really have say 4-8 sizes, the Chinese will get you there! And when you get them go through each drill size and varify it with some good calibers..use good digitals so it don't take forever. When I started modding carbs my China drill bits bit mi ass as they were not the size they claimed they were.

Yeah I know my first set was a joke but second set was much better and complete.

Well just got info that my local Stihl dealer where I ordered my parts are closed for good until the pemdemec is over so I ordered another carb today yes it's I ordered a hd17a im going to compare them both on the saw just because I'm bored off my ass right now so I'll compare how each one idles and throttle response and wide open I'm thinking that it's not going to idle as good with the hd17a but I good be wrong if it idles as good as it does with the hd18b then I'll be a happy camper and Lightning performance will be getting the hd18b with the .66 jet but you're paying shipping Mr.

The hd17a came today and she came with the .66 jet so unfortunately because of the pemdemec the .58 jet that I ordered is on back order or on hold from Stihl not sure when it will get here but I'm going to give this one a go just as is for now.

Can't find a hd8 around here and can't find a hd16a without having to buy new so hd17a with the .66 jet she has now.

Well although I like how the Walbro hd18b ran on the modified ms460 but it just was a pig on fuel on the high setting that carb with the .66 jet she idles perfect very nice and plesent but on the high setting she needed a smaller jet....... I believe with a .58 she would have been hit right I would have more adjustment on the high setting but that's on backorder for who knows how long the Walbro hd17a is a bit of a touchy *b-word to get set at idle I got but took a while the high setting is right where I like it. It's just a little over 1 1/4 out from bottom and still fore stroking at 14.260 dam strong saw I would in a race put up side buy side agents my modafide 064 I think it would be a heads up.

The only difference in tuning at half a turn and farther out is how quick it adjusts. The same amount of fuel is needed with the same size Venturi whether it’s 1/2 turn or 3.5 turns or am I thinking wrong here!?
