Thanks AJ, I’m not at your level but I’m very happy with how his handle feels. I want to skip work so I can sand it...lol

Nah your darn good my friend it’s all very well having a curved handle but you got the angles spot on to make the most of the axe head whether splitting or banging in the wedges

Beautiful handle AJ. That’s a very uniquely designed ax. Does it have a specialized purpose like a carpenters hatchet??

Thanks it’s one of those that I started shaping , I was like you pretty keen to get on and start sanding

The axe is made by Rinaldi Italy it is the “Calabria” model which comes in
Several variants large and small they say it’s a fast felling axe
The full range is for sale in the USA

After doing some research they use it as a throwing axe
Iam going to have a go at that
Funny you say that, I was thinking it would throw good because the toe is angled so far down. If you try it you’ll be addicted for a little while...ask me how I know lol

That is an art and a sport in and of itself. [emoji106]
Looks easier than it really is.
Yes sir, definitely not as easy as it looks. I got pretty good at it a few years ago but haven’t thrown since. Getting good at what I call “1 flip range” isn’t too difficult, but it’s much more challenging at longer ranges. Kinda like controlling the flip of a horse shoe, takes a lot of practice to be consistent

I sat down intending on sanding my handle but got a little carried away cleaning up the ax:rolleyes:. What do you think fellers; leave it like this or put some bluing on it? I’m liking the polished look but Gun bluing looks nice too.

The poll was mushroomed pretty bad, I cleaned it up the best I could without removing the makers mark. I still got into a little though:(

I guess it’s nearly as addictive as having a classy bottle of bourbon on the shelf
I had a go at close range throwing today and had lots and lots of misses but
But I did eventually hit the target it was fantastic I was stoked I retell ya

Now @XP_Slinger any tips on handle length head weights I’ve got 2
Double bits that are the right style for throwing gotta pursue it now

Thanks bud. And yes, it is a very tough choice.

I didn’t get really technical in throwing, but I did prefer a 24” handle with no swell on the end. I never even looked into what pro’s use. Now you got me wanting to throw again...lol!

Isn’t it a great feeling when you get it to stick? Thwack! Hell yeah! Lmao

Sanded my handle and applied the first coat of oil. Put a little burn on this one, hadn’t done that in a while so I figured why not. Some of you may laugh at my over sized hatchet but that’s exactly what I wanted...lol
