You’re just old and weak
Wonder if my weight would be different on a totally healthy, live tree? The base of this I hit almost complete punk.Red Oak from up here in Northeast is much heavier and dense. Shows 80

Definitely makes a difference. Spruce in Alaska has tight growth rings and is heavier than ours. It’s more like our hardwoodsRed oaks around here tend to grow fast especially free standing: 36" DBH after 40-80 years, but in the forest in virginia, their red oaks seem to only reach around 16" after 80 years. I wonder if that would make heavier wood?
More moisture, but less wood density. At least that's what it seems like to me.Sometimes those punky ones seem to have more moisture in em! Almost like it got in there and no way out.
Betting the spring cut pin oak here over three feet wide is near 90ld sq ft fresh cut. All heart wood might be more. Old honey locust is near 90ish.Red Oak from up here in Northeast is much heavier and dense. Shows 80
Lmao...While you were trying to gigawatt the molecular weight of wood, most guys just took a stab at it. I would imagine it varies from state to state and year to year anyway
This one had varying tightness of the rings. Quite a few were very tight, then they’d widen out. Uncle Rob, as he’s know to the PA Posse, sealed both sides of the witness ring I cut from the log. I’m eager to see how it turns out. They said they counted 199 rings at the spot they cut but when I got down the base a little further, I came up with a quick count of 180 couple.Red oaks around here tend to grow fast especially free standing: 36" DBH after 40-80 years, but in the forest in virginia, their red oaks seem to only reach around 16" after 80 years. How about guessing with no measurements? Or I'll have to go back out and find it.
