Lol. I just love shooting defenseless animals and I have a 14yr old son that's a groundhog stalker.

I walk till I see one and sit and wait for it to come back out.... Young ones are dumb. If there's one we want to get rid of I'll set up and wait...

243 in a 55 to 60 grain bullet is excellent for varmit hunting .its actually damn near as fast as a 22 250 in those loads and on long shots you dont get as much wind drift with the 243 verses 22 250 although 22 250 is probably the best varmit caliber going the 243 is probably the most versital caliber and will kill anything from varmits to whitetails and hogs if i had to only have one rifle it would be the 243 model 70 win with a timiney trigger job

I bought my 223 with factory ammo prices in mind. Now that I reload I do sometimes regret not going 243.....

Nah... Just another excuse to buy a gun. :)

Used a 243 for years would knock the shat of em at 400 yards. Buddy gave me a savage 223 he won at a raffle a couple years ago, it's real good shooter till the wind picks up. No recoil to speak of an very deadly at 300

17 hmr is a great round i have one i actually prefer it over my 22 mag not knocking it its just a light bullet that will get pushed around on longer shots cant do much with in in wma being a rimfire thats why i like my centerfires. i like my 17 hmr for shooting hogs in the head or behind ear sitting on corn pile and i love it for tree rats

Yes sir. I agree with that statement. It has its limits but on a day with no wind it's lights out

True but still rather bust em with 22 250 or 223 especialy if out there over 125 yards.just sayin
I'd be more than comfortable with shooting them at 200 yards with it. I've seen many videos of people killing them at 250+ with a 17. Doubt I'll ever get any kind of shot like that around here.

17 is a wildcat cartridge .thats why no one makes it in auto and in most cases its in a bull barrel being a high percusion round the reg barrels and in auto cant handle the exhsust gases from it ruger was only manufacture to make it and they were having some issues is why they stopped making it thats main reason its so powerful and load kinda like 357 sig

I've used .22lr but they usually run back in hole in don't come back out, also .22 mag n .223. Best shot I've seen on one was my uncle .22-250 head shot through the ear about 275 yds. Not sure if it he's that good or bullsh*t lucky

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good

I love hunting ground hogs! If they start running they will normally stop and pause for a few seconds right before they go into their hole...

People call them whistle whistle pigs around here.

I take my .243 most of the time and sit on my front porch or in the back yard.

We have tons of those little pricks everywhere!

Back yard, it's a long poke to the top of both hills.

Wow, I didn't know anyone still did this. I remember hunting whistle pigs with my old man as a kid. We would drive around the back roads and look for them in pasture fields. Dad had a early model 70 in 22-250 that would peel them all day.

They stand up when you whistle. I got one at 405 yards with a 300 RUM one summer. I shot 50-60 that year. Being laid off and plenty of time to do it was great. I'd carry the 22 with open sights for stuff under 100 yards and the 300 Ultra for over that. If the bullet expanded the damage was huge. If not it just went through and they would bleed out. One folded like an accordion at around 100 yards and all that was left was the back and feet with the head. 223 in an AR is what I use now. I would like to take some shots with the new 6.5 out to 500 now.
