Well after a lot of frustration due to a member of another forum I finally got my 550xp. Reportedly with no pics, the p/c are good but has lost compression. Listed as piston looked good through the muffler port. When I got it I pulled the muffler and sure enough the piston/ring look good but when piston on down stroke I can see scoring over the intake. uh oh. So I pulled it apart about 10.30 last night, and found this. I am not sure the cylinder is even salvageable. Pretty deep score toward the top. This is going to be a more extensive project than I first thought but at least I can list a 550xp in my sig.

Ouuuu ! that is not what you wanted to see I'm sure !!
Looks like a proper component failure ...the joint in the ring is in the hole of the intake if Im seeing it right ?

You have to figure out what went wrong Dave before you put in any new parts.
If you have to buy new p&c i think the current price is 115$ for the set.
Is there 2 or 5 year waranty in US?

I will look closer when I get home. I think it is gone but will double ck. What would cause this issue. Just a piston pin failure?
I never had any scored piston where the ring pin was the reason, but my old dealer say it happen now and then....
Just make sure Dave that there aint any issues in the crank.

Since you first have got yourself a 550XP there isn't a reason why you should'nt end up with an 550XPG, cleaning and shipping on Monday so you have something more to work with ;)

Is it still in there? Looks like someone soldered it...

Yep its still in there but looks like the end of the ring has broken off and prob caused the damage. Not sure why that would happen

Not fair! I though about converting my 562 but they I saw how much they want for the generator... I might as well buy a new saw.

Husky sure know how to price those nice G parts, doesnt they?
Funny thing with Husky, they don't have global prices, in Sweeden, the homeland to Husky they take 120$ extra for an XPG saw while they take 30$ extra here...

That's because they know your Swedish hands are sensitive to the cold and you all have come to expect heated handles.

Did you got time to study your 550 more Dave?
Currious to know if you found the missing part of the ring.
