Just as title says.
Been dealing with a hernia for over a year now. Finally time to get it taken care of. It is progressively getting more uncomfortable.

Who else has had it done...how was your recovery?

You know if you weren't fugging around with all them big saws this wouldn't have happened.

My buddy has had 3. Main things is, is to let it heal. He didn't and that's why he has had 3 surgeries.

Good luck!

Good luck! Haven't had it done but recovering from having my gallbladder out right now. Got one more week off. If it's anything like what I'm going through. Gas pain was the worst! After about 2 days I was fine besides bending and now no pain at all (~12 days Out) still no lifting more than 20 pounds for 6 weeks total and will be getting staples out tomorrow. Don't know why it helped the gas pain (gas was inside my abd, not my intestines) but taking mylanta the next day helped the gas pain. YMMV. Hope everything goes well and don't over do it, but definitely get up and walk. It will help the gas pain as well. When it gets stuck in between your shoulder blades and hurts all the way through your shoulders is the worst.

Lol. What big saws!!?? ;)
I got it last year when I got a nasty cold and cough. Wish I had an awesome chainsaw, or superhero story.
I coughed it out. Lol

Getting gassy is really uncomfortable for me too. Made one of my apprentices gag...couldnhear the bubbles rolling through my hernia area. It was pretty gross. Lol

I had a hernia for about 10 years before I finally got it fixed. It was always out and I had to constantly push it back in. It would really bother me when I'd bend over to pick up rounds, it would always pinch in my belt area and it felt like someone kicked me in the sack. I finally had enough and got it fixed.

I was couch bound for about 2 days. After that I couldn't stand it and was up moving around doing some tinkering. The pain wasn't too bad you'll be fine, it's more of a pulling pain.

I've had two inguinal hernia surgeries one on each side. The first one hurt like you wouldn't believe, if I so much as twitch it felt like someone was sticking a soldering iron inside that whole region, not good. And then I sneezed once, I blacked out and started to have nightmares about sneezing or coughing. I really didn't start getting around until about a week after the surgery even then it was painful. Now the second surgery was totally different, I had very little pain, didn't even take pain meds, and was up and getting around by the third day, I even felt well enough to drive a little. I asked the surgeon why the first one hurt so much the second one didn't? Response was that's just how it goes, sometimes it hurts bad, sometimes it doesn't hurt much at all, just depends on the nerves and exact area where I cut lol.

My advices for the first 5 days don't do much at all even if the pain is not that bad. If it does hurt like hell, you simply won't do much lol. Make sure to have plenty of pillows, sleep on your side. If you sit down on the toilet don't push at all and make sure you have something to help you get up from the toilet. Drink plenty of water.

So I recommend my surgeon as I walked out of the office at 1pm. Was at my son's baseball game at 5pm. Never took an aspirin or felt it was needed. Stuck to the docs schedule and all was good. I'll be going back soon for the other side but without any hesitation... my brother had the exact same recovery after his was done too. Dr Joe Gallo in flemington nj. Best of all he is a wood burner too. Good dude .

Seem like a 50/50 shot as to the pain, I'm guessing the size matters too. I had to have a plug and mesh on the side that really hurt, and just the mesh on the other side. The plug causes, let's just say flow issues until you're fully healed and The swelling goes down. The ones they just close up are probably less painful, but I'm told the don't last guys that do physical work like myself. I have two nice 8" scars on each side, and still have swelling in the area, guess that will never fully go away.

Had an umbilical hernia surgically repaired several years ago and it took me out of action longer than I thought it would have. Also the pharmacy forgot to add the stool softener to go along with the pain meds. Trying to go while holding your guts in hoping that they don't blow out is no fun. So make sure you have everything before leaving the pharmacy.
Wish you good luck with your surgery and a speedy recovery.

That first surgery sounds pretty rough!! I’ll be hoping for the latter of the two. Lol

Andy, Mine was a mesh and they accessed the hernia with arthroscopic surgery . the biggest cut was an opening near my belly button. the other 4 "holes" were tiny. I don't think I could find any scars left over to show you. Which is good because I am seriously considering a career in modeling someday and need my washboard abs to remain as perfect as always.

i had one for 3 or 4 years until i got it done, i was gutting my second floor of my house and all the dust was making me sneeze and i was blowing my nose and thats what did it...
it was always out except when i was sleeping, usually wasnt uncomfortable at all... when i got it fixed they tried going in through my belly button with a small cut but they couldnt get it so they had to cut me open right over the hernia, so i got cut open in 2 areas and the surgery lasted alot longer than we expected.
i was off of work for about a week and a half, probably should have been atleast 3 weeks but i was going nuts sitting at home, pain was pretty bad the first day especially when taking a piss ( i thought i was going to cry it burned so bad )after about a week i could get around fine just couldnt wear a belt or button my pants when sitting...
pretty much it sucked but it didnt last very long

Ok that sounds a bit different than what I had done, I was opened up pretty good, the doc said it was a very larger hernia. Best of luck with that modeling career.[emoji41]

Remembering the first time that I was in between the pain meds wearing off and needing to remedicate. Thought to myself I feel damn good, about time for something to eat. Big mistake when the pain returned and I took my meds. Bad time for vomiting is all I have to say. Held a book on my belly while doing it. Lol
