I'm needing to try some of the Atlas Thermals or something similar. Leather never seems to hold up for me when handling / splitting wood. In the winter if there is snow on the wood, the leather gets soggy and cold real quick and when the leather is damp it gets holes way faster that when dry. I get the cheap 6 packs of gloves from HF for handling wood so I can change them as soon as they start getting wet. I hate them or any open cuff glove for running the saw though.
For running the saws I like a glove with a velcro closure at the wrist to keep chips out and I usually get the HF Hardy mechanics gloves for that, but they don't hold up well for handling wood. I like them when filing chains also.

You brought up a good point about leather getting soft when wet. I sweat like a freight train, which may help explain why leather does not last for me. The Atlas Gloves close around the wrist, so you will like that feature. I cannot comment on the thermals, don't need them here.

One warning on Atlas gloves: if you get bar oil on them, they will be slippery, take them off when filling your saw with bar oil, or just be careful when filling. I tend to get bar oil everywhere.

If you get bar oil on them grab a handful of dirt or saw dust and rub it the gloves that’ll bring the grip back.

I just checked the label on the Stihl gloves I got three years ago for Christmas from Santa. Stihl claims their goatskin gloves outlast cowhide two to one. So, I added these to my bundle of work gloves in the truck. But, I hate wearing them out on hackberry or ash bark because they are so comfortable. Seems like a waste.

This is what a lot of rigging crews wear here, mainly to protect from "Jaggers", which are shards of cable that stick out on the rigging:

I think they're made by White Ox and I've used the White Ox Gloves for tree work and they do good there.
Where do you buy these. I couldn’t find a decent source. Found them by the dozen but the 20$ shipping was laughable

Don't know if you guys get any of these from Stihl. I bought the two top pictured types and both lasted like a week only.

The recall allows them to be returned for a full refund without proof of purchase.

Two years ago I received as a gift 10 pairs of blue gloves from Northern Tool. They lasted just under two years (all ten wore out). The finger tips and thumbs gave up completely. Bark killed them without barking very loud. Since they only cost about a buck apiece, it's no great loss and I appreciated the gift. No leather in them whatsoever, all synthetic rubber and cloth.

Yeah 20 shipping

You might try Madsen’s, Woods logging, Cowlitz River Rigging. Wood’s house brand one use to be thicker then the white ox ones so they had a little more cushion.

Elkskin 445 is hands down the best leather work glove I’ve found. Coincidently it’s the same glove that Aerostich sells for motorcycle riding and it makes the best glove for that too. Try a pair, I have large to extra large hands, the 9.5 fits me well
