Buddy of mine just gave me a 288. Couldn't tell ya if it's an XP or not. Serial plate says just 288, and the label is about half gon off the starter cover.
The downside? He picked it off the side of the road last year. It broke the pistol grip about midway on the top.
He says they had it running, but couldn't get the chain to move. I showed him the chain brake....Solved. But he didn't need or want, so he handed it to me today.
It's pretty well used looking, never gonna be pretty again, and a previous owner brazed a chunk of pipe in the muffler, presumably a larger port than stock.
Anyone got a tank/grip assy in their wrecking pile? Found the shop manual posted by Mastermind, thanks a bunch!
I suppose I could get creative with a couple tubes of JB Weld and some glass cloth, but that would be ugly...
What's the skinny on the 288 anyways? Good? Bad? Just the wrong color? Feel free.
Gonna be pretty hard to make me feel bad about a free saw!
