I guess the wider you make it the greater your risk. Performance is never free.

I'm always relieved when I get them in, which is why I never glue the surfaces before getting the piston started (like Tony does).

Instead, I start the piston into the cylinder, than tie the cylinder up to the handle to give me a little working room, then squeeze the sealer with needle nose pliers (at various angles) to get the coverage I want. Works for me. (Usually, I'm doing it alone, and wishing I had more hands).

I had no issues installing the piston. Place gasket, place cylinder bolts, apply ring compressor with a small portion of piston exposed at the top. Support lower end of piston and squeeze ring compressor with one hand, install cylinder with the other.
Cylinder, piston and rings pre-lubed with 2 cycle oil.
I also rolled the motor by hand quite a few times before running.

The roof on the cross 660 cylinder I have here is very flat.
If I widened it I would be rounding it a touch.
Problem with that is the plated band
Widening the exhaust port wont affect any part of the band, whether it is or isnt plated

Notice any difference? Do the used rings look to be peened or crushed at the tool marks?
Can't tell myself.
I'll probably open the new set to .020" to be cautious.

Cleaned up and back together.
Same jug, original cross piston with the casting flaw.
Runs.
Pulled some noodles with a 25" bar after 10 minutes of idling.
I'm hesitant to piss rev it. But ive seen 14,700 on the tach very briefly. Can't seem to Richen it up. It'll turn 14,400 3 turns out on the H screw.
Running a walbro WJ-76-1.
