Piston pics for alls amusement.

Left to right:
031,028,026,246,350,50,ms270,echo something lol

That's the lineup in the group pics, I moved them around for the sideby side closer shots. If you can't tell which is which I can decipher for you.

Looks like I just waisted some dough.
I'll have to weigh and measure the 28 piston when I get it vs. the 26.
Looks like it has promise, but Basher knows his stuff and obviously ABarrick does as well.

Ok so here is the dolmar ps540 piston.
d9b59d74c23f0ceaa9dbc29ee0e0ded2.jpg

It's got a
Flat top, longer and wider skirt, 10mm pin, single ring
Crown is shorter than the dome but taller than the edge.
But piston is .28 mm or .011 in larger diameter than the 44.7 piston which my calipers say is 44.58 mm or 1.755 in.
Al says maybe it can be turned down.

I have all 3 Pistons in my possession. 026/246/028.

I'll take some measurements soon. The 246 visually has a lower crown height as stated above.

The biggest issue I see is that the 246 is a GOLF piston, so even if it fit, I wouldn't want to run it in one of my saws.

Don't be to afraid of the golf as long as it mics round and strait. There is one in my three cube saw that has seen 20,000 rpm a time a two, and no failures yet. I would hesitate to use one in a work saw, but they're great for experimenting!

PFfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

Deflation when I saw GOLF on the box as I opened my package today.

If HLS had of specified it as a GOLF on their website I probably would have saved myself $60 and bought beer instead.

When I put a wrist pin in both, the 246 piston is about .040 lower from its crown to the outer ring on the 026 piston

And about .100 longer on the skirt

The piston doesnt look to be of great quality next to an OEM or Meteor, so I think I will shelve the idea until I see what those with more know can possibly find.

Or I will just sell the thing and get an 034 or 036 :)

Its a great little saw but there has to be a better small saw to port and make scream without having to cut the piston's top off.

An 034/6 is a great saw to mod. Makes much more power. But it's apples and oranges Brewz.

The 026 flat cut mod is not that hard to do. The saws come out pretty sweet. Have you seen this video?

It's an MS260. 044 carb. Dual muffler outlets. 260 psi comp. runs really really well.

The bigger issue I see with the piston is where the ring is set. It may be tough to keep it out of the intake port.

I'm trying to understand this. How does a lower pin to crown height help? Don't you need to take off that much more off the base to get the jug lower? Either way the squish needs a certain amount cut out to get the exhaust where you want. It seems to me a taller piston that was already flat would help minimize the base cut but the squish cut stays the same????
Am I confused here?

Exactly Dan.

We need a longer piston wth a higher compression height.

Yeah that's a solid little saw!

Its not a primary saw.
Once I get into 10"+ timber the 066's will be fired up, so I may just go with the tried and tested combo!

This whole idea is geared towards swapping a different piston in a jug with a base a half inch thick on a 66. Hard to take 1/8" off a 1/4" thick base on the 26

What are you seeing in the piston that you dont like? I'm not saying that they're of the highest quality, but I've put 10 gallons of fuel through my ported 7900 milling and bucking and it's still there running a golf piston

What I "think" I know about Golf.
Like a lot of other "brands" they exist by buying in qty from a manufacturer and labeling and selling product they have no control over.
They initially bought a huge qty of high quality pistons cheaply on overstock and got a good reputation amongst buyers based upon those pistons.
That type of supply chain is hit or miss and the next time Golf purchased stock they got the normal crap and so the buyers got burned with large qty of *s-word pistons they bought assuming they would be as nice as the first batch.
thus a legend is born
Dave
