What is your pick for the wood you cut ?

Stihl 440 gets my chores done .

For years I used a husky 455 rancher with an 18" bar and 3/8 chain. It tackled everything. It was a pretty good saw and never gave me any real problems.
A couple years ago I found you lot. Since then I ve sold the rancher and started acquiring stihl saws. Now it seems whenever I go cut fire wood I bring a couple different saws each time but the one saw that always seems to go with me now no matter what I'm cutting is my 038 mag. It's a beast and just plain cuts. It's definitely not my fastest or most efficient saw but I like how it works.

For firewood? I define firewood as down tops or blow downs. 262 XP hands down. Anything above 18" or needing felled that's a different saw.

I have a dilemma. I've got an 044, 034s, 036, 026, a jred 670, and a 7900 that i use often. I take a few each time. No particular favorites, just whatever I wanna use that day. It probably has more to do with what chain is on it more than what saw

I am with Canadian farm boy, the 038/MS381 has good power not to much weight & has a real fat bum so a firewood guy can pick it up & sit it down all day with out it EVER falling over. They just work for firewood.

I still use my 460 Rancher the most of all my saws, it's the most dependable saw in the fleet. Have a Poulan Pro PP5020AV I like for limbs and smaller stuff, also good for cutting slabs off the sawmill. Sometimes I'll run a little Homelite XL102 for fun, I call it my lil' hot rod saw. If the tasks get a little larger or for felling I like the 272XP, my fastest saw. For the really, really big stuff I'll break out my 281XP. Thinking of adding a 35-40cc into the fray, other than that I'm a pretty happy with all that I have.

I put a 20" total light (tsumara) on my 360 from Nate @fordf150 he has good prices.
The 360 is balanced with a reg 18" but balanced perfect with 20" light. Fwiw

I collect a few dead saws every year, fixem up, then I try them for my fire wood. Always interesting to see what the hype is about some of the saws from reading here and other sites.
Last year was a 353 with some light mods,, so far this year a my 268xp, still have a 7900 and 064 to try out, I always take a 2171 with me.

I prefer a wide variety - of flippy cap Stihls... I usually pick the one best suited for the size wood I'm cutting. But the Mastermind 362c probably gets picked the most often.

I think a good firewood saw is at least 60cc but 65-80cc handles 90% of firewood. When the rounds get past 16" a 50cc saw becomes frustrating.
