yep! no doubt in my mind... that is why I followed you over here Mr. MM! :)

as an fyi - worked part of the afternoon today on my 044 porting job...and it echos much of the tech and information in one of your how-to's that certainly was interesting, helpful and informative to me... real happy with the results so far, and kept noted boundaries inline per your cautionary guidelines... when I was done with today's work... I was a bit apprehensice... did I get the port too wide by chance and over into the ring gap line? but, happily - no! :)

room to spare... but not two rooms!! lol...

"let's build some chain saws!!" :)

044 porting work today, Mr. MM influenced! first cuts... work in progress...

So.....

You've got these fingers. Long shallow grooves with little cross sectional area that should work like squirt guns before the mains open.

If youve got a high intake, How many degrees for blowdown can you get away with and still get positive flow?

Im thinking it should be more than 2* advanced over the mains myself.
Mine are 3* before mains Al

Hey Backyard ... pics look good . :applaudit: that thing should be a runner....

tryin'... ;)

let's hope so...

its a two stage project. this one is to get it running again. with moderate mods that just cannot be ignored... then do a carb rework... and then a BB kit... all parts in house. :)

just a hot rod saw project, don't have to do anything to justify its keep other than run, and run good! lol...

thanks!

that is the right attitude. but u can be sure, it will be a slow process in any event... so much to know and understand... have to know the theories!! goal is to accomplish the work, competently... and no scrap cylinders sitting on the bench....

read, read... and read some more. when u r not reading... study! you have to know the theory, the things not to do, and the things to be aware of. lots of info online, here, etc... hunger and passion is a suitable driving force... coupled with a keen motivation... imo, all else is just the luck of the draw!

I don't think you can port effectively 2-stroke chain saw engines, if you do not know the theory and principles of design and function ~

Even after all that..... Each saw (brand, series, model... Etc) does not respond exactly the same to the same mods or "numbers".... There are also different ways (or styles) of building them to reach their potential..... Always a lot to be learned by a beginner, novice or even an experienced saw Porter!!
