A early stock 394xp that I rebuilt recently with a meteor is very strong. Pulls a long and short bar like a boss and keeps my ported 385 honest. Even still has a base gasket. Before breakin it was alright but now it really woke up after 5-6 tanks. I think the earlier saws ran better factory than the later ones, pre epa carb, early muffler without that restrictive cone inside and non epa tank vent may make the difference.image.jpeg

Very nice! Mine is an early one too, made in '93. I notice that like mine, your case does not have the provisions for the little skid plate that comes with the wrap handle kit. My employer's 394 does have them and is a '98 model. I wonder when they made that slight change to the front of the cases (flat area for the skid plate) and pre-drilled and tapped mounting bolt holes...

My 394, not as pretty as some that have been posted, but she's got alot of snot. Since I took these pics, it got a new OEM clutch cover :)

I have seen a few people ask how well they relate to each other. I'd like to start with 24" wood, most likely fir...then move on to larger wood 30",36", hopefully up to near 50" wood, to see what happens as the wood gets bigger. I know chain speed will be the deciding factor in the smaller stuff...larger stuff, I'd think, would be the more torquey setup.

If you are close, I'll let you borrow my Stihl Bar.

I'll have to take it off sweetly first, but she won't mind.

I know what it's like down home: he'll flip when he realizes there are other parts of the country that are similar to his Beautiful Area.

And the *a-hole Population is Immensely Less Down 'Round Home.
Been around alot of this country. His neck of the woods is top on my list.

First number in your serial is the year, in your case 1995. The next few numbers indicate the week of that year if I'm not mistaken??

You are missing a rubber buffer there under your ID tag.

In my case, 1993. Pardon the ugly pre-overhaul pic. ;) Mine was missing that bumper when I first got it too. They are still available OEM. IMG_20160310_161421130.jpg
