Colts are even worse.
I have a neighbor who wanted a new stainless Python that I have. Several years ago, he offered me $1,000 for it. When I turned it down, he asked what it would take to buy it. I told him $2,000. He laughed at me.
Earlier this year, he told me he was ready to buy it. I said the price was now $2,500. He's thinking about it.
I remember buying a king cobra 4 inch 357 for 195.00 excellent condition and my friend bought a 4 inch cobra .38 for 150.00 and i bought two new gp100 .357 4 and 6 inch were 335.00 and 350.00 now revolvers are double that if you can find them and autos are half the price i don't know why.

Love that m57MG @srb08

For general carry out in the woods, I like my S&W m29-2 with 4" bbl. It's kind of my safe queen, so I don't carry it real often.. But it is my favorite.

My most frequent carry is the runner-up, my S&W m19-3 with a 4" bbl.

There is a pic of both after cleaning detail.View attachment 42591

I especially like the M29. The smooth finger groove grips make a huge difference on that gun. With the old cheese grater grips, they're pretty hard on the hands.
I like the K frame guns, in .357, as well. Light and compact but still pack a decent punch. You have a couple of nice ones there.

I remember those days and wish I'd bought more. Then I remember what I was making then and remember why I didn't.

I've got both .223 & .308 barrels for my Encore handgun. The recoil is very manageable with both. I've got a friend with a custom .338 Win Mag barrel for his Encore handgun. He's afraid to shoot it but likes to show it off.
Is either barrel ported or are they both straight? I would imagine the muzzle blast on the .223 would be bad but the recoil negligible...
The .308 on the other hand, might be a different story. I like weapons that recoil, but I know the style of recoil that I prefer and my limits in both styles (long forceful shove versus a short stout punch)...

Both plain barrels.
They both have a vicious bark but the .223 is sharper.
The recoil on the .308 isn't bad at all. The Encore has a cushioned grip that helps a lot. I expected the recoil to be a lot worse than it is, although I haven't shot anything heavier than 168gr bullets in it.
The stainless barrel is in .223 and the blue one is .308.

What's the effective range on those?

I can't imagine shooting a 375 out of a handgun, that's a gun I want to shoot though:D

With 150gr bullets in the .308, around 2,500fps is max.
In .223, with 50gr bullets, 2,800- 2,900fps is max.
I killed a Coyote at around 150yds with the .223. Dropped him in his tracks.
The problem, at least for me, is holding the gun steady enough at 200yds+ to be accurate.

I can't imagine shooting a .375, H&H or Ruger, in an Encore either. The only term that comes to mind is pain.
I've got a few boxes of .338 Win Mag ammo left from when I had a rifle in that chambering. I offered to give my friend a box to shoot in his Encore, just so I could watch, but he wouldn't do it.

That'd be worth a trip to Missouri just to shoot that cannon.

Once

Probably at night just to see the fireball out the end.

338WM out of an Encore??!! I have a Winchester m70 Super Grade in 338WM and while it's not at all terrible to shoot, it's nothing to scoff at.. But that's a fairly heavy rifle. Couldn't imagine it from an Encore...

Depends on where the woods are.

For around the house, if the only thing I'm carrying is a centerfire handgun, one of these is generally with me. T-B, Ruger GP100 .357, Ruger Sec Six .357, S&W M57 Mountain Gun 41M, Ruger Blackhawk .44S.
View attachment 42278

If I'm carrying a rimfire, it's mostly one of these. T-B, Ruger GP100, S&W 617, Ruger SP101, S&W 617.
View attachment 42281

If the woods have big bitey critters, like in Alaska, or Chicago, I'm never without one of these. T-B, Ruger SBH Bisley .480, FA M83 .454, Ruger SRH Toklat .454, Ruger RH .44M. Not the prettiest handguns around but they make big holes.

On the ranch/farm? - I loved my old Browning Buckmark and my current Ruger MKIII does a fine job.
When hunting things that might hunt me back, it's either my Sig P250 carry (.40S&W or .357 Sig), GenIV G23, 629 4" mountain or my 6" blued Taurus 608 8 shooter in .357... All have their plusses and minuses. I will have another Bisley gripped revolver in .41 mag, .45 Colt, .454 Casull of .480 Ruger, likely a BHB. I will be inheriting a .44 SRH Alaskan subby soon which shoots like a dream so it's a viable contender. I would love to have a FA revolver, but have heard some horror stories about their recoil and safeties. I would like these two guys just because:

AND, the .454 Casull version of this guy:

I've had both the BFR & FA83 Field Grade in .454, & I much prefer the BFR.

1. It's a Super Blackhawk with 5 holes.
2. When you open the loading gate, the cylinder turns freely.
3. The SBH action is superior to the old half cock.

These days I prefer a Redhawk/SRH in 44M.

Garrett's HC Hammerhead +p are close to 454 Horse Power, with 1 more hole.

Awe heck... Might as well toss in a pic of the rest of my wheelguns, they all see time in the holster anyway...

Top to bottom, 629-6 Classic, 44mag, 6.5" bbl, 36-7, 38spl, 1-7/8" bbl, and 28-2 (Highway Patrolman) 357mag, 6.5" bbl... 357 is smooth as butter from that N-frame. :)ResizedImage_1395152460320.jpg ResizedImage_1382042871751.jpg ResizedImage_1394571253761.jpg

I agree on the RH/SRH. I've got 5 1/2" and 7 1/2" Redhawks in .44M. By far, my favorite gun for that cartridge. I've also got a .454 SRH Toklat. Since I got it, I haven't fired my FA 83. The SRH is comfortable to shoot, the FA, not so much.
The SBH Bisley in .480, ain't bad either.
The older I get, the less I enjoy shooting heavy recoiling handguns.

I had my first 45 colt before it was legal for me to "Own" one, so dad had an old Blackhawk.

I owned my first .454, a BFR, @ 19.I cannot put a number on he many boxes of ammo I shot thru that BFR: I enjoyed that revolver as much as any I've ever owned. I traded it some years later.

About 3 1/2 yrs ago, I ran up on a nice used 83 Field Grade: I'd always wanted one.

I didn't keep it long: yes it was nice, but I just didn't care for it.

I've had a trio of SBHs, but I now know I prefer RedHawks in 44M, and sometimes a SRH.
