Incidentally is the "moderation" of the thread been done for politically correct reasons or a failed sense of humour?

There are more verbose substitution's available in keeping with the spirit of intentions ;)

Oh because I can.

Both of these are German, both have the potential to cut you into pieces, one will hold a grudge for decades.
I will let you decide which one is a big bottomed girl. Lol20160922_212319.jpg

Are parts still around for the older Sachs Dolmar saws? I had a gentleman ask me if I could/would get his saw back running again, I said I did not know why not, but did not have any direct knowledge either, as they are kinda rare around these parts. Any help in a general sense would be appreciated, as I would like to have a better answer next time I talk to him. And no, he did not give me a model number, that sure would have helped a lot, will have to try and pry it out of him. He did say that the saw sure gave the Stihl guys fits back in the day.
Definitely make sure You know the exact model designation BEFORE You say You can fix it.
Then make sure You get a look at what the gentleman actually has, and what seems to be the problem with the saw.

Generally "Sachs-Dolmar" saw parts are not easily secured, in most cases it involves buying a parts saw that turns out having the same needed part be defective as the saw one is trying to fix.
There are still NOS parts out there, but as one can imagine the supply is rather erratic.

I can't get enough of my German girls:

My 7900,, after reading some many good things I had to have.
This was on a Lewis Winch, maybe a tank thru it, had never seen wood.
Basically paid for the winch. Bought in Feb. Did a muff mod on it.
Been a bit of a dissapointment so far.
First time out It iced up on me in the winter.
Next time out I guess I put a bad chain on, cut crooked!!
Still have to check the chain out as it looks ok,,rakers?? bar??
So I am still dying to see it work in some good wood.
Got a newer bar and chain on now.
So next time out,,,,,
I painted the cover as it came with some scratches and I wanted red.

With a decent straight cutting chain and proper tune, you will not be disappointed!!

A bad chain made my 661 look like a turd to a stock 461. Better chain and the 661 was back to it's normal self just eating through anything I put in front of it

Sent from my non internal combustion device.

I may or may not know where you can get red plastics.

Nearly impossible to be disappointed in a PS-7900!
Tune her right below 13.5k WOT (I have mine at 13.4k), make sure Your bar is true, and sharpen Your chain to specs with a file guide or grinder (You can lower the rakers a bit more if You are using a "shorter" B&C setup) and there should not be any disappointments whatsoever!

Oddly, I never switch my saws air intake to winter (warm air from the cylinder) and I haven't encountered a frozen carb yet.

And in the spirit of this thread, Dolmar PS-6400 with 20" B&C sitting on one of last years oak firewood tree trunks:

Are the Makita saws made in Germany ? , I see they are going from blue to orange .

Power wise does the 6400 run much better than the 6100 ? , noticeable weight on the 6400 .

Reason I'm asking these dumb questions is I have never had a modern Dolmar in my hands.....yet .
