I've played with a few '95's. I like them as long as they don't have the original style crescent butt plate. The semi or flat shotgun style plates are FAR more to my liking. And they can be soft as a puppy dog or fairly sporting depending on which side of the scale that they're loaded. Trailboss would make for a neat plinker. Buffalo bore and Garret make some hot ones and I can span the gap as a reloader. I'd really like to have a High wall Winchester or Browning in .45-70, with a lyman sight or a 4x scope.

That Henry is only 6.8#'s. With stout loads it would be punishing to shoot. Looks like fun though.

I only shoot Trapdoor level stuff in my Marlin, no reason to hot rod it for most uses. One great thing about this cartridge is you can make darn near any powder work in it. It is no problem to duplicate original blackpowder performance with modest charges of pistol or fast rifle powders. When my supply of IMR SR4759 runs out I am going to try Unique and Blue Dot.

Mine had the crescent buttplate from the factory with really nice wood. I bought a used Guide Gun stock and forend set for it, more comfortable and I'm not worried about it getting scratched. If the specimens at the local fun shop are any indication, the 1895 has suffered alot less than the 336 has since production moved to Ilion.

Got my lead smelter today to slowly start getting into making my own bullets. Been reloading for a few years now and not sure that I’ll make a whole lot of bullets myself but trading some dies and powder that I won’t be using I am only in the smelter and ladle for $15 so I figured I would at least get into it and have the ability too in case of another shortage.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that! Gimme a holler if you need any advice. Be careful with any lead that is supposed to be "wheel weights". Alot of non-lead weights out there that make terrible bullets and are darn near impossible to skim out of the lead.

TP2177, what bullets and cartridges are you planning to cast for? Do you have any idea about what sort of sizing and lubing you are going to do? I have some lube and lube dies (both Lee and Lyman/RCBS style) I could let go for real cheap or trade. They are just taking up space so I'm not looking to get much out of them.

Mainly 9mm and 45 acp not super picky on grain weight just looking to make cheap bullets lol

I think I can make 380 with the 125 gr 9mm right? I know it’s heavy for caliber but the Lee lists 9/38 super/ 380 on the same mold

You can use heavier bullets in .380, but you aren't going to get much velocity with standard pressure. They may not chamber all the way either. I use the Lee 356-102-2R for my .380's. Sized to .357 and loaded to .965 OAL they work great. Probably the easiest way to lube your bullets, especially pistol bullets, is to push them through the Lee sizer which mounts to your press then dip the shank in liquid alox and let dry. It is more messy and not as fast as a lube sizer machine but they shoot just fine in my experience.

Thanks I had typed in 380 mold into eBay last night and had not seen anything specific for 380. Definitely have a lot of reading to do lol.

I've had good luck with Unique and a 300gr PC bullet from Acme. They shoot well in my Winchester 1885. I've got some 405gr lead and PC bullets from MBC to try as well but haven't loaded any yet.
I have a Trap door Springfield that I haven't shot in years. I need to dig it out and try some of the 300gr Unique loads.

We may have a Trapdoor bequeathed to us soon. Will be interesting to load for if so.

I dont have any problems with wheel weight lead the clips and non lead weights and impurities float to the top.then i skim it.the problem is alot of wheel weight lead ive found is harder.it sticks to your molds .i blend it 50 50 to pure soft lead then it cast nice.im sitting on about 1000 lbs of lead.the best ive found is in x ray rooms the lead on the back of the sheetrock.thats some nice clean soft lead.

SRB08, what charges of Unique are you using for .45-70? My .30-30's really like 8.8 grains under a 113 grain lead slug.
