Headed home after work yesterday. 6pm dead on my feet tired. Sipping a giant Gold coast coffee. And no road blocked by a loaded for tree. First cut peeled the chain right of my 460. But I never carry just one saw.vpicture after cleared road, neighbours came down helped load wood for me.0523181819.jpg

LOADED FOR BEAR!

Taking the Mustang cause it will be a long trip, and I don't need ladders or ropes. Fit 11 of my 13 saws in the Mustang, and still have room for a passenger (will be picking up my friend Harold, some of you met him at a prior NY GTG).

Have several giant Oaks to cut up that went down in the storm, so I'm packing mostly the big boys. Have King Kong (MS-710) with a 36" bar, two Asian 660s (one also wearing a 36" bar), two 066s, the 460, Hybrid, 440, 044, 360 and 261. So, will be set up for mostly the big stuff!

Also packed the Fiskars X-27, Timberjack, 2 helmets, tool bag and wedges, Fuel + Oil, and an extra Fuel.

Wish me luck! (At least it should not be a problem if I pinch a bar … Ha Ha Ha!) S/B fun!

Well packed but I would suggest some padding or separation between that cant hook and the chainsaw cover it is resting on, vibration from road travel will mark the cover. Have a safe trip.

I could be mistaken, but methinks you stand on the back. My buddy has a little one man tree operation going for himself. He's dreaming of a big flatbed with a knuckle boom loader and sides for brush. I'm trying to convince him that a mini skid like that one and a dump trailer would be way more versatile. Probably cheaper too.
Those days are over. I need a knuckle on my 26fter. The *s-wordz too big mang!

I figured that log should just about tip that little skidsteer up on its toes. We have larger units at work for landscaping and I would be hesitant to pick a stem that large up with them.
I pick up 14'x35" maple with a tracked mini bobcat and it struggles. Don't touch the brakes. It is rigged off two steel hoop-bars welded the front of the upper arms. If you roll the bucket all the way down it is a straight pick up. Nylon straps go straight up the arms to the mounts.

Hey Mike, good to see your out back at it. Stay away from that transformer oil. It has PCBs and they cause skin cancer. Let hazmat cut that crap.

Looks like the storms are causing many to get near their "limits." Just remember the best feller is a live one. When trees and stuffs cracks, chairs or other wise has something to say, run. If it goes wrong there's only the quick and the dead. Good Bad or the Ugly does not apply. I'm not that brave. Chains, ropes, trucks, buckets, cranes, pole saw, whatever it takes to get it on the ground safely or walk away. Mans got to know his limitations.

The oil Now used is supposed to be PCB free: transformers installed within the last 20-30 years should be PCB Free.

It’s certainly a good call out on that as the age of the transformer will dictate wether or not PCB oil is in it.

There has been a push to get rid of the PCB oiled transformers in the last few years for the very reason you mentioned.

As I type this however, I can see 3- PCB era transformers standing on my front porch.

I broke the welds on the lift cylinder arm on a skid steer picking up a log that was too big off center before. Gotta make sure ya pick it up centered or it puts too much stress on one side.

Had a good day cutting today, and got done way before the people we were cutting for predicted. Nice to have lots of good running saws in lots of sizes. Was not as much big wood as I was led to believe, but still got to play with a 660 and 710 with 36" bars.

A large Red Oak (over 36" at the base) went down, and took a medium size Smooth Bark Hickory with it (mostly hidden beneath it). It was growing in the middle of one yard, went across another yard taking out the chain link fence on both side, plus the deck and BBQ grill, and the tops of both trees were in a third yard.

Had to be careful of metal in both trees, and the chain link fences, deck and BBQ, but Harold and I got it all cut up with my saws in under 4 hours. The home owner told us it was goin to take us two full days!

Weather was great, people were nice, and I got to work with my friend Harold … a good day!
