I have bucket envy. If I had that here there would be no tree out of reach with that height and reach. We don't have trees over 100' here. Most can be done with a 55' working height.

Norm you had a nice view on that one job for sure.

In four years I have only come across two stumps I couldn't get to so far. Here in the mid west we easy access to most places around homes. Also I only have about $5K total investment in my old school grinder. She is very profitable at that cost.

If I did a large volume of work I would consider a more modern unit though. In our area lots of home owners take down their own trees so volume isn't that high on the stumping side. If in a larger market area it would be different again.

No I payed $750 then sold the burnt valve VH4D ($350 I think) pos and set it up with a 35hp Briggs then a year later put a custom wheel from new river industries (great people to work with, highly recommend them) so after all was done over the last 4 years I would say I have close to 5K in it. I have put just over 400 trouble free I hours on it beyond replacing belts. It has made a substantial amount of money in those 400 hours.

I doubt it grinds as fast as some of the modern machines but has a very low cost to operate compared to spending say$25K or more on a equivalent HP machine.
