On the page below, Red Armour "type" is listed as "semi-synthetic." Wonder what that means?

Also, on that page, I note that it says this oil allows your fuel mix to stay "good" for two years in a properly sealed container. Wonder what "properly sealed" means? I have a plastic Husqvarna chainsaw container with screw-on cap but also an Eagle Manufacturing metal fuel can with spring-loaded cap. What qualifies? Just curious, I would not let fuel sit for two years, it would get used!

EDIT: I use only e-free gasoline.

A benefit of this oil is it turns the fuel mix red color. A worker is more apt to learn to recognize mix.

Ethanol gas is good for about two months at the most then it starts to go bad. At least in my experiences. I wouldn’t run any 2 year old ethanol fuel.... no matter what oil was in it. Running equipment dry is the best solution to storage, preferably ran dry on non ethanol fuel.

Ok ill bite.

Semi-synthetic oils are just as the name states, the base stock is derived from a mix of petroleum and synthetic stock.

Most high quality ope specific oils have some type of fuel stabilization added to the blend. Also by nature of oil, it adds some protection against oxidation of the fuel.

Sealed container means air tight. Spill free cans in my experience have been the most air tight cans at a reasonable price and can be found almost anywhere. Why is an air tight can important? Most pump gas contains ethanol. Ethanol is hydroscopic meaning that it can absorb moisture (water) right out of the air. Ethanol can mix entirely with oil (fuel) and with water. But when the ethanol absorbs water from the atmosphere, it becomes corrosive to the metal parts in the fuel system. Let it absorb enough moisture it begins to be heavier than the oil and separates from suspension. Then you have water at the bottom of your fuel system causing lots of problems.

“Up to 2 years “ , not for 2 years. Big difference. Not sure if that oil has been around for 2 years yet. Anyway it’s good oil, it meets JASO FD spec. Does not get any better than that.

Dammit Steve, one is not allowed to bring logic into an oil thread.

as highly respected oil as REd Armour is I am very surprised to find out that its a "Semi"... I spent a good long time finding a fully synth that was priced fairly and found a Mystic 2t product that I have been using... don't really like the smell of it and I haven't opened up a case of mine that has used it yet so the jury is still deliberating.

Not a fan boy. Just my observation of Red Armor. I have use nearly the gallon i bought a year ago. I mix it 40:1 in my saws. Ms170, ms250, hopped up 361 clone, hopped up 660 clone. 50:1 in blower, hedge trimmer, string trimmer, pole saw. Using regular pump gas in everything. No issues so far. Doesn't smell bad. Have torn down the 361 and the 660 to do some mods. Was suprised how clean the piston and combustion chamber were. Overall, not a miracle oil but seems to work fine and leave piston and cylinder cleaner than other oils i have used. $0.02

Being the outlaw that he is, Steve flaunts society's conventions. This is the guy that resurrected a garden tiller to turn it into a snowplow. :coleman:
