I finished the mods to my new to me CS-400 last night. Decatted and unclogged muffler, Tsumura 16" bar with semi-chisel, idle at 2850 and WOT at 11k. Look forward to putting it in the wood soon, the CS-400 and Husky 440 are two inexpensive saws that really wake up with a decent b/c and basic mods.

Sorry for the late update. The 6700 had a flywheel issue. Anyhow, prepping large 24-28" diameter spruce logs to be milled with the chainsaw mill I timed some cuts with the same exact chain. The chain was a freshly sharpened 3/8 EXL with 3 strokes off the rakers.

The echo cs 590 and the old cs 6700 are set up EXACTLY the same. Both have mufflers opened up, base gasket delete, timing advance and no port work. The 590 even got a walbro 86-578-1 fuel nozzle in the carb. Both are brand new saws, everything is new on the 6700. Both had a few tanks of fuel run through them to break-in.

The 6700 was 2 seconds faster in the 24" diameter cuts. It's a high-rever. The echo cs 590 was better at cutting down stumps. The 6700 would bog if u didn't baby it through the stump. New school 60 cc's does not equal old school 67 cc's. But honestly, I couldn't pick one over the other.

For $279 shipped ...couldn't pass it up. The seller has one more at this price. My wife isn't amused. 😂

Awesome deal! I paid about that much for my CS-500P which is mechanically the same thing. Far as I know the CS-501P jug and other parts bolt right on.

Thanks man! It's my second CS4910 😂 Ive also got the CS 490...same as your 500P but plastic handlebar. The 4910 is the same as the 501P except plastic handle bar and black recoil and clutch cover.
These 50cc Echos are great little saws. One of my favorites.

Didn't know the 4910 was the economy 501, makes it an even better deal!

I picked up this Craftsman 2.7 just because I have 70cc version in the same colors. It was run maybe twice. It came with a really nice Oregon bar on it.

I was watching that one, glad to see it went into good hands, only reason I didn't bid was I already bought two saws I was after for a while now and I have a near new condition 452vl to keep me happy for awhile....lol.....These two saws pictured are not the ones I had just bought, the recent purchases were a Pro Mac 650 and an Echo 602vl. Just finished up the 650 and will be starting on the 602 in the very near future.... :)

Thank you, I was surprised there wasn’t more bids. I was a bit reluctant because of the low amount of feedback for that seller. He turned out to be a real nice guy. Saw & bar were well packaged.
Nice looking 452vl & that 031 looks new.

I grabbed this 4400 at a flea market crazy cheap last Tuesday, dirty as all get out and locked up tight. Figured it would be good for parts at the very least. Once home I started playing around with it, started rocking the crank back fourth and could get it to start to rotate but could tell it surly was damaged inside. Pulled it completely apart and found the piston skirt on the exhaust side had broke off into little pieces. Cleaned and flushed everything, oddly the cylinder wasn't damaged at all. So I ordered a piston kit and installed it the day it showed up. The saw actually cleaned up quite nicely and now runs as new, it did come with a bar and chain as well. Not bad for less than fiddy total. Haven't decided if I just want to flip it, or hang on to it for a while...... 20240420_141044.jpg20240420_141053.jpg

About a month ago I joined the very elite *Echo Club* with my purchace of a new 4910. For several years at Home Depot I would see the 590
Timberwolf for $399 (now $449) and I WANTED one although I didn't need saw that size. But now I am excited with my 4910.

All the Echo line, 590, 4910, 400 etc. etc. IMO have to be the best bang for the buck saw out there for home owner, semi-pro use. If I worked in the woods as a profesional I would probably be useing Husqy or Stihl.

I have and love 4 saws. 1 Jonsereds, 1 Husqvarna, 1 Dolmar and now 1 Echo. I also have and love 1 Stihl weed whip and 1 Stihl leaf blower. Brand means little to me. I wish others felt the same and would give Echo a try.

Echo Echo Echo ......:campeon:

Finally had the chance to give my new to me CS-400 some exercise on a walnut that fell last year. I think this is a very low hours saw, my well broken in older CS-400 which has the same basic mods is a lot faster. Seems to be tuned to the same sweet spot between rich and lean that my other Echoes like, I did de-limit the carb and set WOT to 11,200 as a baseline. Factory spec is 11-11,750 or something like that.

The bar and chain is a new 16" Tsumura with Archer semi-chisel. I find a bar and chain really needs to break in before you evaluate a saw. The chain seems like a crude Oregon PXL copy. It makes chips but otherwise meh.

With lil' bro CS-303T:

Anybody ever try the CS-271T? I cut a lot of piddly kindling size stuff and this little saw looks ideal for such use. A dealer near me has one that has been on the shelf forever and he might make me a deal just to move it

They are decent saws, if you're not after a lot of power. We've sold a lot of them over the years and not had issues, but obviously they're down on power and up on weight compared to their little brothers, the 2511.
