Bump, still kinda interested in this route instead of having to buy an adapter then stihl bar. Any opinions?

Echo bar still has plenty of life in it and I have 3 newish chains so it may be a while but just kinda having a plan for when I need a new bar. Want to eventually go 72dl one way or another just for ease of finding local chains.

I ran an Archer Pro bar on a 6100 for a short time, no problems surfaced. The Archer chain wasn’t bad, way better than TriLink.

tp2177, I don't have any opinions for you on the archer. However, I have run the D196 (homie, poulans) mount bars on the D176 mount that 590 uses with the cheap S-clip or make my own. The 196 mount bar would need no other mod. (the 009 mount common with Husqvarna could also possibly be used, but never actually used them this way as didn't have any to try...I've seen others run 196 mounts on husqvarnas though).

Another option could be swapping the bar studs out from the 590 to bar studs from a 196 mount saw. This would be if they are threaded in the case on the 590. On olympyks, old jonsereds, homelites, some poulans having 196 mount size studs, it is easy to make an s-clip and mount stihl bars to them with no mods. I have several 025 mount bars that run this way on some old homelites, olympyks, and macs.

You are thinking correct on going from the 176 mount to 025 mount that would need a spacer.

This weekend I can send you some pictures if interested. I may have sold all my s-clips to go from 176 to 196, and if so should make some more. On my personal saws at present I have several clips or spacers to run the 025 mount bars just cause they are so prevalent and always can find cheap deals in that mount.

Thanks that’s was kinda the info I’m looking for. I can buy 2 of those bars for the same price as one bar and adapter. Local stihl dealer wants $60 for a 20 inch bar. I love their chains but don’t really care to spend a huge amount on bars if I don’t have to.

Does anybody know of a unlimited coil that will fit a 330t?

DUH! Just picked up one of my 590s, been running an Archer Pro on it too, cut a good amount of oak and ash with it and no problems.

This is the one I’m looking to eventually replace my original echo bar with.

I could actually get that bar and chain, plus at least one stihl chain for the same price as just the stihl bar and adapter not counting I would still need to buy a new 72dl chain so I guess a bar and 3 chains for the same price as going original stihl bar, adapter, and one chain. Only reason I’m looking at that bar.

That’s the 72dl but still a good value. I stayed 70 because that’s what my other 590s were. Didn’t have to worry about grabbing a wrong chain.

Yeah my 590 is my only saw right now, so I don’t have to worry about other saws right now. If I get a bigger saw eventually I may go 800 if I get a good deal but would rather have something like a 288xp or 660 clone more than likely I could at least use 72dl chains on both of those if I wanted to use a small bar on them.

Well I do have a mini Mac 110 that I got for $10 that I’ll eventually feel like getting it running.

Yea, that seems fair for going the 72dl.

If I could justify my own breaker I would just buy 72dl and not worry about it but I don’t cut enough to do that.

Once you get more saws, you'll see there is all kinds of easy fits of other mounts to the 176 mount. I can see what you are doing though. I have so much saw junk laying around that I always have stuff that can be used without buying something. You still to this point satisfied with your metal handle you put on the 590?

So far I am. Been practicing bore cuts though and could really see where a full wrap would help me from not having cut on the opposite side than what I’m comfortable with. So far can’t really get all the way through the tree without it pulling towards my wedge cut unless I go to the opposite side. Not a huge deal I just like to be facing the same direction that the tree is falling(hopefully falling). May just need to practice more bore cuts on stumps before I do it actually felling a tree.

Also my problem may be that all my chains are full chisel. I’m sure they bite a lot more than a semi would for bore cuts. I changed my angles back to 25* instead of 30* to help. My cutting and splitting area has tadpoles in it it’s so wet right now I just haven’t had time to try out the new angle yet to see.

I have been keeping my eye out for a cheap 357xp handle though it seems to have the same curve for the clutch side bolts that the 590 has. I think it would get me closer to the original handle grip than my modified 372xp one does.

Good luck. If we all had pockets full of money you could just get a 620pw and add comfort to felling and use the 590 when have to take a stump down close to the ground. I like your strategy so far, you get stuff for cheap or don't get it...

Does your spur drive show any signs of ware? The one on my 590 looks to be holding up very well. If I ever ware it out I'll probably go rim to.
