Was in Home Depot the other day. Their brand bar/chain oil the cheapest around. (Please spare me a "you get what you pay for" admonition- It's what I could afford... TY)
Anyway, saw a yellow price sticker for a saw- Echo 50cc 20" bar, regular $399 for $280. Couldn't see the model. They're in a locked security cage and all sorts of sticky labels covered the side of the box, but I'm sure someone will provide that momentarily. My recently updated Husq. 350 (18") is my "big" saw, and should literally last my lifetime, at least of running a chainsaw. So I don't need another 50cc saw. But that seems like a lot of saw for the money- certainly a grade up in quality from what passes for Craftsman, Troy-Bilt, et cetera at the other "box" stores.
Anyway, thought I'd pass it along. This is in Vernon Hills, Illinois- 40-ish miles NW of Chicago.

I hear lots of good things about Echo saws here in the forums. I have worked on a couple of their smaller models and they cleaned up well and run good.

If it is tacky and does the job, use it!!

Jeff W, your Husky 350 is a classic saw and I have two of them in that class: the 350 and the 353. I just restored a 350 that had been burned out 10 years ago with no compression. It starts and runs fine now. It doesn't hurt to have a backup and that Echo 4910 might be just the ticket. Echo is "the one that lasts."

Well, go figure. I promise that the yellow tag said regular $399 for $280.
Just looked at HD website right now. Allowed location I.D. Honest. Wait for it...

It said regular price for the 4910 is $379.99. On clearance. At Vernon Hills. That's 5 miles away. Wait for it...

$200. You read it right. $200. Do I need to rethink this? It is still the right color, after all....
HELP!!!

You haven't bought it yet?? I've got one and I'd snag another at that 5 miles from home.
Just checked, I can't order it shipped.

Well.... Just did some quick learning courtesy Al Gore's inter-something-or-other...
You all know this. 4920 is the replacement. 20 has spring vibe dampeners like my Husky, 10 has rubber. But not a deal breaker. 20 has primer bulb like my J-red 2238, the 10 no primer bulb like my 350. Not a deal breaker. Watched a guy compare the two brand new. Weighed them (no Bar) full of fuel and oil. 10 is 14 ounces lighter than the 20. That's a deal breaker/maker for me, quite possibly. 10 has decomp valve, 20 does not. That's huge for me. I think I'm going to HD when they open tomorrow.

Thoughts?

Pix coming. Got the saw. Love it.
Read all the way through the Echo "quality" thread. Decided that all of the nuances/experiences/preferences, legitimate and informative as they are, regarding 50cc saws from the major/top-shelf manufacturers melt away at $200 new-in-the-box. And if you've waded/suffered through my other threads, you know I'm a typical storm-cleanup-firewood homeowner. The 4910 is everything I expected, and more. And, yeah, that compression relief is the bee's knees in my book...
