Makes sense to me Mike. Maybe the 37mm dolmar crank is a better choice for a loggers saw that will get beat on? The performance difference between the two doesn’t seem to be extreme to me, but that is subjective opinion. There does seem to be a bit more torque with the solo from the limited time I ran the 665 and 665/7910 hybrid. The dolmar crank saws seem to have good response. But that could be related to things other than the crank. What one were you able to get stronger?

I only messed with one Solo and none with the actual 681 top end. I think the 7900s were stronger but we’d have to put them on the dyno to see. The strongest ones probably went to people not on the forums any more.

I think 42" full comp is too much no matter the PH, just not enough chip clearance.
It is like me running my 20" full house, same deal - anything but optimal.
In my limited experience with it semi chisel takes more power to run than full chisel too.

Full chisel and full skip and the Solo may pull that 42" B&C setup with much more authority.

42" .404" full comp semi chisel just for play and fun?
Go nuts!

For reference, my factory stock Dolmar PS-6400 will pull 36" 3/8" chisel full comp fine (vids up on the Tube), but I would never use said setup for work.

.404 full comp is actually really close to 3/8 full skip spacing, but yeah 42” bar is too much for any 5 cube saw realistically. Was a test just for fun. The 395 runs that bar good and it stays on that saw for milling.

Just picked up a 395, will be running a 46'' sugi, full skip .404 semi with an 8 pin. Will be interesting seeing how well it cuts. The idea is to use it for quartering big logs for transport, stumping and milling. Please excuse my derail...

Derail away... I’d use a 7 pin, gotta remember 7 pin .404 is almost the same size as 8 pin 3/8. Can the saw run a 8 pin .404? Probably but you’ll be happier with the 7 pin if your cutting hardwood.

Makes sense. The Solo is an overbuilt Dolmar. Longer crank and bigger bearings prolly make up more weight than extra screws, fuel lines and foam. But then again, I'm a chef so what do I know.
Prolly should put #just a chef in your status thingy. The cool kids are doing that nowadays

I sold my 6421 to buy a 372xpw. Regretted it and bought another and put a 7910 top on it. The 7910 de-cat out cuts my now ported 372xpw!

I'm a dolly fan as much as anyone, but that xpw should walk that 7910, especially if the xpw is ported.

Same bar and chain and wood. The 7910 just feels like it has more balls. Maybe it's in my head? Xpw was built right. Its strong. Just feels like i can lean on the 7910 harder.
