OK the big mystery saw this thing is massive and old and ugly and he said he could never figure out what it really was

Get me some more picts of that one Dave, it has all the makings of a Clinton chainsaw, just have to figure out what model it is. That rocking chair style handle, gear reduction case and top oil tank are all classic Clinton chainsaw parts. This is as close of a pict as I can find, its not the actual saw in your pict but very close,

A buddy of mine had a Strunk that was a runner, sold it for $3500.00 and regretted it. He was able to trade for it back eventually but it took 18 months and some doing.

for the most part "old" doesn't necessarily equate to "valuable".

"Take no prisoner's" Solo Rex being a good example.

If a saw "speaks" to you it's worth whatever it takes to shut it up:p

Basher is more on the money than I am, the angles aren't right for a Danarm (but the handle is for some).

that is very close, I am miles away from his shop and I need to take a ladder that is qualified to hold my girth with me next time.
These saws have a pretty serious layer of dust on them but seem to be in nice shape.
I will do some more searching on Acres site to try to pin down the mac and homie models.

I am going to get the Disston, Strunk and Wright for sure at this point.

I can contact my friend Alain, he might know exactly what model it is, also Cliff and Rick are good sources for identifying old mag saws.
