Can anyone tell me the difference between a stihl fs 111
Fs 111 r
Fs 111 rx
I bought today a fs 111rx.i bought it mainly so i could put a blade on it to cut brush with a blade.so I get it home and the manual doesn't say this one can use a brush blade or the stihl circular cutting one.online the 111r manual says you can!I put the stihl circle blade on and it was tight. Cranked it up and started using it and the head was trying to spin! What the crap.did it couple more time till the head pushed it way down until it quit spinning from the shaft.

The differences are:

FS 111 R has a loop handle
FS 111 RX has a loop handle and a lightweight shaft.

The FS 111 can use a metal blade because it has no lightweight shaft. Metal blades are only allowed to use with a bike handle, not with a loop handle.

For your FS 111 RX it is not allowed to use, because of the lightweight shaft and the loop handle. You may be able to put this on your brushcutter but it`s not good for the gearhead and the drive shaft. The FS 111 R and 111 RX have different gear heads.

Take it back to the dealer and let them figure it out. It`s a warranty thing on your brand new machine.

The gear heads are just the same. The lightweight shaft is the problem in the rx. As for not running blades on a loop handle? I've had my 110R for 7 years now and run a blade on it alot.

I agree with the lightweight shaft, but the gear heads are not the same. There are different parts in it.

Gear head for FS 111, 111 R, 111 R-Z, 111 Z: 4180 640 0114
Gear head for FS 111 R-XZ: 4180 640 0115

I'd say the only difference is the input shaft but I could be wrong. I know the 110 and 100 rx were the same

The old 100 rx ran a hollow shaft until they found that was a crap design and started putting the cable type shafts in them like the non pro trimmers

Differences for example are:

The input drive shafts are different and bearings inside (drive shaft input side, one bearing is the same and the other one is different between these 2 gearheads), and the drive shaft inside the gearhead (where the cutting attachment is mounted)

Here is the difference in gear boxes: 111RX is on the top and standard Stihl on the bottom. The 111RX gear box is super light and feels like it's made out of magnesium.
