My reason for starting this (and some may have missed it) is for the winter I may return to the log woods, going to get laid off from the tree service in December probably and have been considering another all purpose saw. I consider 70-80 cc a do it all size and the reduced weight 28" is what I prefer for work. Everyone's answers for what they preferred weren't unexpected at all, but the dolmar/makita 7900/10 getting the greatest quantity of votes was surprising.

Copy that, looking for new? Ported or stock? What’s the best dealer you have in the area? If that’s what you are doing the it shortens the list to a 372xp x-t , 7910 and a 461, can’t really go wrong with any of them, also depends on what saws you already have, for spares or backup saws, in you sig you have some good saws to fit the bill as well! A 461 with 44/46 hybrid for back up is nice, some areas won’t let you run moded saws, so that something to consider as well. I have a lot of Stihls, all used, I can get good deals on them so that’s what I run, if there were lots of 7900 laying around I would buy those too! Lol same with huskys!

There are 10 stihl dealers within an hour's drive, 3 husky, 2 dolmar. So its not a big deal either way

I love my 7900's. But given the lack of dealer support, I'd go with a 461 as a main saw and have a 372 as a backup. If your stihl dealer doesn't stock enough parts, I'd go with the 7900 and get parts from here online. But I'd still have a trusty stihl or husky as a backup

There is one stihl dealer in the area that has common wear items in stock, and one husky dealer that has common items in stock, one dolmar guy does one doesnt. Pretty hit or miss for all of em...

I might run the 461 just on sheer dependability then. I doubt the 7900 is more dependable day in and day out.

I ran a 7910 for 3 years, in that time it needed an av mount, regular tune ups, and a brake band. It did pretty well! 461 is definitely a good powerhead, wont get any debate from me

I do have a fear of heights, but I have improved some over the years using tree stands and ladders.

I'm fine if I'm moving, a little Cessna or Roller Coaster don't bother me at all, but keep me away from the Ferris Wheel, tall ladders, and when I worked in the Trade Center (#2) I could not stand next to the window. Hey, them darn building swayed!
