man that looks beautiful! if you don't mind me asking what does a piece like that cost?

Price that piece sold for is one picture. Check this link for the US sellers website. Basically the last 4 or so years of sheoak has originally be milled by me. Birdseye is very very rare, Only ever done 3 tree's with it.

I won't say what a piece would cost from me over the forum as I think that is not appropriate as I deal in it. pm would be fine though.

On the knife maker side of things, I know this fellow here, shows some of the neat timbers available here for handles.

@sunfish may have an expert comment or 2. His knives are world class. I have never seen an axe from chainsaw chain, and there may be a good reason.

+1. If any of you are on instagram, check out donhansonknives. Absolutely beautiful work.

Thanks guys! Saw chain Damascus ax would be very cool, but have never seen
one. Many knives though.

I've been meaning to make some saw chain Damascus to show here, but too
many irons in the fire I guess.

Maybe all You need is a bigger fire ...

Beautiful work!

Blacksmithing is a dying profession in my area, was once not so long ago a very common way to make a living.
The young generation isn't used to work, a 6" smartphone and checking their "social network" status is as much as they want to handle out of free volition - all with the parents support.

Artist blacksmithing and bladesmithing is pretty strong here and in Europe, but is not main stream. I'm seeing some young people getting into this. My son Kyle Hanson is 25 & making a living at knife making, but he sure doesn't put in the hours his old man does. ;)
