Big Saws = Big Grins!!!
I know I really enjoyed running that 166, as did my friend John, and that was his first GTG!!!
When I share the details of that saw with him I'm sure it will really make his day, what Lee did with that saw makes porting look tame!
I don't have to have the fastest saws to be proud of them, but I like the competition just the same, it keeps you honest and helps you out in the long run. I love the way my 026 runs, even though it looks like Matt smoked it in that wood. Later in the day, it seemed to almost keep up with CFB's 026 that has the 044 carb and that is the saw that smoked Matt's saw in the cant (And I saw CFB was surprise how well it ran). That was in different wood, and perhaps the angle I filed my chain made it more competitive in the other wood, there are so many variables. Bottom line, I love the way it runs and it puts a smile of the face of anyone who runs it, but no saw is best at everything. I generally use that saw on smaller wood, and I call it my "Lightning Limber"!
Also, 044 #1 was very hard to start at the GTG, and not as impressive as it usually is. So today I changed the fuel filter, air filter and plug. She popped on the 3rd pull (as opposed to over a dozen at the GTG) and fells better, so lesson learned. Many of us who use our saws generally don't change things till we realize we should!
I also noted that Eric was not super impressed with my 044#1 (see above), but thought my 440 did great after I did the square file sharpening demonstration on it. In timed tests I've done in the past, 044#1 smoked the 440, but I like em both.
The sharing of knowledge and opportunity to run such a wide range of saws is priceless. For example, the hybrids at this GTG have given me a new flavor of CAD!
I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did, like a kid in a Candy store!
