Got my Meteor kit ordered from HL with oil seals. I don't think im gonna touch the ports unless the casting needs cleaned up. From what I have read these run pretty good with muffler mod and carb tune. Thanks for all the input, it is appreciated.

Depends if it’s an 029 or 290 older 029’s just open up the deflector. The 290’s only have 2 slotted holds where the old had at least 4 slots and 2 holes under the deflector. So usually I’ll ad a few holes if it only has the 2 and grind the outer bolt on deflector to open it up more

So I got all my parts and tore it down just to find one of the crank throws has a full thickness crack through it right at the connecting rod bearing, flywheel side.......aint life grand.

So I got one coming, I call Sthil just to see what they want for one...$300 dollars the parts guy says. I said wow that's a bit high don't you think and he kicks right into salesman mode. "hey we have MS250's on right now for $300.... I said um NO thanks. That just left a real bad taste in my mouth dealing with that. He just lost my business.

Got my crank this morning, rebuilt everything and I am seriously impressed. Only one complaint and I will address that with Meteor....the casting around where the exhaust studs sit were absolutely terrible, everything else was perfect. Thank you for all the input and suggestions.

Thank you for all the input, its just a firewood saw and I am going to be doing some bigger trees this spring so I just want some extra power. I just might clean up the casting if needed, muffler mod it and re-tune and from what I have read and seen it should run ok for what it is. It runs ok now but its a 290 not a great saw just ok. Will be looking for an upgrade after I save up a little gold. There are so many choices and price ranges for this but the 2 it came down was cross and meteor and I am going with the meteor with cabers and new oil seals....any ggoo
