I tried my best to talk the seller of this sweet example 4.3 to ship the saw, he had it listed on Marketplace about a month or two ago one state over, he considered doing it, but it sold locally a few days after I had messaged him. I owned the same saw and the Echo version as well and VERY reluctantly sold both about twelve years ago. Been on the lookout for another, or even the 60cc version.402381011_6933500876725805_4966118438515115597_n.jpg

Touched base on this in Dallas' fundraiserIMG_20220504_200204942.jpgIMG_20240924_205223983.jpgIMG_20240924_205143966.jpgIMG_20240924_205720092.jpg thread but didn't want to derail that thread. I ended up with this one in a purchase of a David Bradley gear drive. Fellow wouldn't sell me the DB unless I took this one. Haven't really touched it yet other than freeing up the chain in an ATF/diesel soak, and freeing up the roller tip. The chain is 1/2" 0.058, and including bar numbers just in case anyone cares!

Would you mind to post more pics of the Sears saw? My grandpa had one of about that vintage and I wonder if it was the same one.

Absolutely, but it'll be tomorrow before I can get them on here. Pretty ugly though, so you might want to cover the kids' eyes!

Thanks. Grandpa's saw was older than that, and even bigger. It may have been the same as your gear drive.

I've got an old Sears gear drive about like that .I have no idea who actually made it but it's got a Power Producrs AH-58 engine .That's the one I spun the flywheel off that chased me around in my garage in fear for my life . That thing has a Lauson carb that uses actual check valves in the carb instead of flat flapper type most carbs use . It was a freebie I may or may not get running some day .I can't remember if it's got .404 or 1/2" chain .

Mr. Kibbs - do you have any more photos of that chain in post #202?

It looks a lot like McCulloch A8 that was used on many of the BP-1 model saws with and auto-sharp feature.

Morning Mark, there is another pic of it on the saw in post 209, but I can take more better ones this weekend if desired. Are you looking for any particular angles, or just a close-up similar to your pic above? I'll also see if there are any markings on it if interested (??)

Also Mark, I just looked up the BP-1 you referenced on Acres Net, interesting concept for the intake! I'd bet those saws are a little on the scarce side, huh?

Mr. Kibbs - your photo does not show.

For a short production run, there were a lot of BP-1 saws made and many of them were used very regularly. The first one I acquired was quite thoroughly worn out.

The 399-T snowmobile engines never did reach the general market place, but I heard that a few made it out in some racing "sleds". The way story was told to me, they were so dominant against other 400cc models that the following season they made them add the displacement of the balance piston to arrive at the final cc rating for competition.

Mark, these are the best I could get for the old Sears chain. Side plates look pretty similar to the McC chain you posted above. It should be legible but if not, the DL are marked '81', only markings I could see.DSCN4823.JPGDSCN4825.JPGIMG_20241103_183001261.jpg
