Cracked my case. Is there any hope for it?

I was splitting the case on my 028 Super and I somehow missed a bolt... I thought the pin was holding it so I drove it in. Then I heard a pop... It split about 3/4" back from the bolt hole in the oil residue, so fortunately it is not in the actual crankcase portion. Is there a recommended fix for this or do I need to try to find a case half? The damage does not look horrible, but I would prefer it not to leak oil everywhere... This is the only chain brake 028 I have had, so I don't have a half to rob. Any suggestions?IMG_20160808_221752752_HDR.jpg

IMG_20160808_232651225_HDR.jpg Here is another picture. I actually have it clean in this pic. I can't believe I did this. I am just glad it was MY saw and not one that belonged to someone trusting me to fix theirs.

I don't remember what bolts on where it's broken. Can you take one from farther back? Like of the whole side? Is the broken piece sandwiched in?

I am back in the house now. It is the lowest and farthest forward bolt in the oil tank section. I have one more pic. My biggest concern is a massive oil leak.IMG_20160808_233250066.jpg

I would ruff it up a little bit maybe even make a trench out of the crank and fill it up with JB weld and clamp it down flush.
Yup. Just like that. I'd grind a little v in it after the initial glue up and fill a bit more with some overlap. You should be fine because there's no real pull or movement there.

Edit. Just saw the trench part..... so exactly like that

That is the mating surface for the oil tank and it will be hard to ever get it to seal off properly. My vote is for a new set of cases.

I'd do a bit of prep so the JB has more of itself to hold on to. I am amazed how effective JB can be in the right situations. I forgot to put a spacing intake manifold gasket on a Stihl blower & when I tightened down the intake bolts one drove straight through the cylinder and nikasil. I obiously thought cylinder was trash but replacement cylinder was near cost of a new unit so out came the sandpaper & JB weld. That blower has been used in daily service for over eight months now. I don't like JB.....I love it!

If it was a 084 or something with a high resale value, I would have it welded. It is an 028. Honestly, if the JB Weld fix or something similar wouldn't fix it, it would likely have became a parts saw or be shelved until a case half found it's way to me. I do appreciate all of the helpful advice.

It could be welded but keep in mind the case is e-coated .That must be ground off first because a heliarc will never burn through it .Been there .
