Schluter or we do are good products, but the time tested method of backer board works well too. Nice clean work.
I used it on my kitchen and it cracked all to hell. Going to go back with backer board.

Got my little shed sheeted inside.
Used 7/16 osb. It's cheap and closes off the inside. Good enough!

And my girls started painting.

I need to trim out the corners and windows yet. Bought some cheap pine. Going to cut it, brush over it with the torch and put it on.

My daughter is turning 10 this week and she wanted to build a floating platform bed for her room... it’s a small room (only 10’ across from one wall to the other) so we’re actually hanging it all the way across. This will also give her room under the bed to use and free up some floor space, which is good, since it’s such a small room.

The railing is just where the mattress goes, because she is afraid of falling off. The ladder will be on the right end and I’m building a couple of shelves for her to keep her alarm clock, books, etc.

I’m going to build the shelves & ladder tonight, and start painting it tomorrow... hoping to get it done by Friday since she’s having a sleepover and wants to show it off to her friends.

She’s been helping me up to this point, and she’s pretty excited about it! I’ll post more pics after it’s installed.

Got the rest of the parts made and primed (used a white lacquer undercoater)... I think I spent about twelve hours working on it today, and at least that many on previous days. It didn’t help that the shop is a complete frickin mess...

Trying to get some repairs done before we move (seems to be the norm) siding has been on the list for a couple years now. The old Masonite lasted 46 years, here’s to hoping the new stuff will last the same.

Took my oldest boy out of school Thursday to help so we could get this done before I take off for a new job next week....

Everything fits and is going to work... and most importantly, she loves it.

We got the mattress on her room cleaned up and redecorated... I feel like it’s close to the ceiling, but she’s happy, and it does free up a ton of floor space. The window is still easy to access, too, which was an important design consideration.

Sometimes you just don’t know if these things are going to work out, but I’m pretty satisfied with the end result.

Broke ground yesterday. It's always interesting what you find when you start digging.
20190526_161505.jpg

Sod is about gone.
20190526_162444.jpg

End of day. Getting the edges level.
20190526_205823.jpg 20190526_205840.jpg

All the sod and removed dirt went into the garden. It's a raised bed now.

I'll turn the sod in a year and till it in.

Stone will be here Tuesday. I'm going to pick up a roll geo-textile fabric and should have the pad level and tamped before end of day Tuesday. I'm hoping the rain holds off this coming week.

Installed some gutters on the little garden shed we have.
First time ever doing gutters.
Turned out ok I guess. Took me longer to do 2 12' gutters and downspouts than it would have taken me to tear a GM 2.4 down to a bare block and fully reassemble though.

Next up is fix the rotted sheathing due to no gutters..

The sill is treated and solid. The studs have staining, but still seem solid. Tjey will be fine for the crappy little shed.
I just need to keep the mice out that found there way in over the winter.

Cut it out with a circular saw and a sawzall.

Do your best and caulk the rest! My gaps were really not that big, but I was using up an already opened tube of caulk, and had cut the end off further down.
I did wipe off the big goobers after the pic!

2 more walls to repair.
And replace the rotten door frame.
Ed, just as a FYI for the future, when I do repairs a on construction that is, slab extended past finish wall at the same grade (would like to see it stop at the wall, and have the exterior slab be lower than the interior) I like to take a circular saw with a concrete blade and cut a groove in the exterior concrete an 1-1/2( or you saws offset) and install z flashing that you can seal to the concrete and go under your siding, most hardware stores have 1/2 by 1-1/2 by 3 z metal, or a sheetmetal shop can make some

Seeing @Bigmac post about the columns reminded me about mine.
I just put another coat of paint on them to ride them out another year.
The wood is splitting and starting to look pretty rough.

So, what will I find under the wood when I eventually tear it off?

The house is a panelized pre-fab job built in 2000, and because we were young, we didnt exactly use the best of what they had to offer on many things..

Here's what they look like right now.

I think they would really look nice if they were a bit fancier, but that may be beyond muh skillz!

Are the main posts pt? The tapered columns are really pretty easy to make, just need a table saw and chop saw, I made a super simple jig to run them through the table saw, you could do it with. A circular saw, but it would make it a little more difficult, If you’re interested I can walk you through the process
