I'm doing engineered Bamboo in my kitchen/utility room and the front entrance way this winter - I'm not looking forward to it. I'd rather rebuild and port a Pro Mac 650
than do flooring work...
I removed carpet from my kids bedrooms and put in Bamboo. It was easy to work with, no nailing. Cutting it is hell on saw blades and the fiber that come out are like tiny micro needles. Talk about the worst invisible slivers. I have enough to do my master bedroom and my hallway in the near future. I would like to come all the way through the house with it, entrance way, kitchen, dining room and laundry room. We decided to use this Cali Bamboo material from Lowes.

Looks good I just finished a custom shower at my house. Lots of work!
Yeah it’s a lot of work for sure. I have three more simple ones to do for customers soon, and a corner shower and tub surround for my flip house. I’m not looking forward to any of them!

There was a corner tub with a window over it where the shower is now. I had to pull the tub, fill in the window, plumb it for the shower, build the wall between the shower and toilet, and then build the shower and tile it.

Fixing up a bathroom. Wax ring was leaking, rusted the toilet bolts.
New toilet flange, vinyl plank flooring (waterproof), baseboards, door trim. Also a little drywall repair by the tub. Still need to paint.

Been getting this house turned around for 6 months now. Working daily after the day job. Did the quick sketch and math to understand the parts and forces.

Opening up this wall is gonna change the whole house.

Could have put the beam in the attic or in the wall. But to keep things KISS, going with a surface mounted double LVL. Switched out from A35 to A70’s. The smaller ones worked in modeling but aren’t found locally. So going bigger and stronger.

Surface mount also gives it an exposed structural look which we like. I’ll probably wrap it in veneer down the road.

It’s cool that you like the look, but putting it in the wall would be easier and you wouldn’t be worried about fastener shear and wood splitting, direct support is pretty easy. You could still put up beams for appearance, and only put the bolts you want to see. Two stacked lvl would be like 3.5 inches into the room?

I'm guessing 2 11 7/8 LVL is way overkill! How far is it spanning? 12 ft.? Cost wise I bet you could stack 2x12's in there and it would be plenty strong up to say 14 ft.
Unless you're after a looks thing than do what you want.
