Got a stihl 066 red light that i've done a bit of rigging on.
When it's idling, it makes this ringing/ clanging noise that sounds like it's coming from the clutch side. I saw it mentioned in another post that clutches could have this issue.

Im wondering what causes this, is it a bad thing, and how do i fix it

Weak clutch springs, a worn out hub or shoes, or a bad drum or bearing

Original drum had alot of wear on the bearing seat, so i replaced it and the bearing. It may be the springs. You reckon i could just buy 3 stihl springs somewhere or do i need the whole clutch?

Also... what do you mean by hub?

If you take the springs off, all three shoes will slide off leaving you with the hub in the center that threads onto the crank. You might need a good clutch to reference if the hub or shoes have too much slop in them.
I would go get 3 oem springs and try them first

10-4. really appreciate the info. I always called that the center of the clutch lol

I was playing with it the other day, the springs did seem a tad weak and when i spun the clutch with a scrench i could kinda tell a little bit of "lop siddedness" to the pads. One of them was out just a hair further than the rest. might be worth comparing to a new one

Yup sounds like you need at least new springs. I'd check engine idle rpm as well, if it's too fast the clutch can do the same, but usually it's old sprigs.[emoji111]
