Supposedly water resistant, we'll see. Should make cleaning easier on camp jobs.
Slight derail: I think it was you that mentioned somewhere that you did something to your STIHL bars to allow the use of husky sized chains? Today was the second time in last couple months that I thought I had a 114 dL chain and actually had a 115 dL chain. Both times where way too far from home. I’d be interested in the procedure

I just drill a second adjustment hole 1/2 inch or so to the back of bar.
Then grind the stud groove out the back. Make sure to make it perfect, I do the last bit with a flat file.
Best to have a quality drill bit. Also your gonna need a drill press.
The 28in es light takes a 93 dl chain done this way.
At some point I will get a mill , this would just take a few minutes then.

Thanks. Looks like I’ll be adding a driver to a bunch of chains now.

The saw is finally getting broke-in, lol. I quenched my other saw model buying itch by test-driving some from some other guys. Yeah...I’ll stick with the 500. I forget too quickly how other saws run.

Do you think you've hit the 300-hour mark on that one yet?
Yes, I believe so. By my rough calculation, I have over 400 hours on it. Pretty much all I’ve ran since I got it. But I did have some buncher time mixed in. I would like to take it to Dan and see how many hours are on it one of these days. There is another guy with a 500 here on the crew who definitely has more hours on his than I do. He has only ran a 28 on his. I’ve ran a 32 a lot and a 36 a little bit. Mostly 28 inch bar stuff for the foreseeable future for me.

28in bar because you won't be in bigger wood? Or you think the 28in bar pairs with the 500i best?

Yes to the first one. A lot of plantation fir in our next few units. Things can change though...they always seem to. Probably be in da big wood next, lol.
