What do you all do to clean up a nasty saw? I had plans for a full rebuild, but the p/c look great(viewing throug the holes), so I don't really want to completely tear it down unless I have to.

Purple power and dawn. Scrape as much as you can away first, then spray with the above mixture and let soak. Then rinse with a garden hose. Cleans up real well.

I'm a little worried about something water based since I'm not totally disassembling. Might try some kerosene in a spray bottle and scrub i guess

WD-40 or PB blaster and an air hose to start if not disassembling for me.
If I disassemble there's a different process. Some of that stuff will blast off once it is penetrated with the Blaster or what ever.
Then you can proceed forward cleaning the outside more.

Unfortunately I don't have access to compressed air, that might hinder the process a bit

A leaf blower works pretty good to dry the water off after you rinse it.

I have used a power washer turned down to low pressure on a really dirty old saw and worked good.

well

as easy as it is ..
and as valuable as a 200t is...

i would tear.it down .... and rebuild it back proper.
.
plus its much easier to clean when all apart.

just sayin.
Thats what I'm doing. Its torn apart and mostly clean now. I did find an issue under all the crud that set the project back a bit

I agree.
Been doing them all weekend.

More than likely it needs motor mounts, intake boot, a sprocket, clutch springs, the accelerator pump fixed, carb kit, fuel filter, tank vent, fuel line and seals. Forget about just dusting it off, lol.

No way to clean between the cooling plate and fuel tank or the muffler. Guaranteed that one is packed with chit!
Bet the oil pump is packed and the tanks are filled with sawdust.
Bet the screens are packed with crap on both ends.

What if it does have a smudged piston?
*f-word it... advance the timing and run it :)

Yep. It's in pieces now. Just trying to decide what I want to do. Trying to imagine a fix in my head

Mail it to Shaun or your best local welder. Not many can do it well. Lucky I have a guy local. Or just buy the AM cases and be done with it. They come with seals and bearings installed and your done... nice and fresh.
