Old post, I know. Any caustic cleaning solution is going to oxidize/darken aluminum, given the right scenario/time. I've used this simple green for years now. It's the only thing I'll use. Originally targeted/designed to be safe for aircraft aluminum parts. I can't comment on mean green as I've never used it, but I've tried just about everything else. There's others that clean well but are caustic and ruin either metal or painted surfaces, such as Castrol Super Clean, LA Awesome, Purple Power and some orange cleaner/degreasers.
