Hard to beat mean green. Especially when the dollar store has them for.... $1.00 per bottle.
Simple green works great too but I don't soak with that.

Hauling junk car off my buddys place in 106f got in the way of getting some mean green. The cyl is shiny, I wonder if the mean green will make the other parts lighter?

Simple green makes dark gray...wanted shiny.
Old post, I know. Any caustic cleaning solution is going to oxidize/darken aluminum, given the right scenario/time. I've used this simple green for years now. It's the only thing I'll use. Originally targeted/designed to be safe for aircraft aluminum parts. I can't comment on mean green as I've never used it, but I've tried just about everything else. Might have to hunt down some mean green to give it a whirl.

I've tried everything.

Mean Green is miles ahead of anything else.

In an all around way without any negatives, yes it is.

There's others that clean well but are caustic and ruin either metal or painted surfaces, such as Castrol Super Clean, LA Awesome, Purple Power and some orange cleaner/degreasers.

I likes LA Awesome on my cylinder, but it faded my paint. :-( Is the mean green paint safe?

I switch between Mean green and AWESOME depending on availability.
The mean green is the better of the 2.
I often fill a 5 gallon bucket with it and soak covers an fuel tanks in it for days. It will fade or destroy paint on some saws.
