Thanks

Nice @Ronie , how long does it take to boil?

Ronie's way looks like a clear winner, I would add though, sand or media blasting can be excellent for a serious restoration.
Maybe a half an hour to forty five minutes if you brush the thick stuff off first. Also it won't take thick carbon out of the exhaust port.

Sometimes there is some of the brown color left on there. I'll throw this 670 cylinder in a pot tomorrow morning before my wife gets up and see how it does.

What about the dark brown burned-on color on older ones?

In that case, I do the same as Ronie but I use straight Purple Power. It gets all that staining off after about 45 min.- an hour.

(Even old Mac 125 cylinders, which can be the worst of all).

Wire wheel takes off the burnt on crud pretty effectively. Wee bit of sanding afterwards cleans up the fine scratches if they bother you.

I just inherent an 10qt or maybe bigger electronic crock pot. The crock is cracked so bagging the parts should work just fine. We got dishwasher pods here.
That should work, you might have to put a few pods in it because it's a lot bigger than that small pot I was using.
