I just started getting my learn on with sharpening in the past few weeks. Picked up a couple of Shapton ceramic stones off of Amazon, the 1k and the 5k. Planning on my next purchase being a 400-ish grit diamond "stone" for flattening the stones and heavy edge/bevel repair.
I'm doing alright on straighter edges like cleavers and Santoku style kitchen knives, but having trouble with the swept up portion of drop points and chef's knives. Any tips?

Main thing is to keep trying, your hands and arms will finally get the motions together. I sharpen alot of blades by hand ,but I also use a guided sharper.

Perfectly normal size, will fit most 18" small and big Husky mount bars.
Good chain too, should go fast. ;)

Just seems 18” is short for large and 3/8” is big for small. I don’t have any 18” or .058”

I need a 24” LW for my 6100

I don't even use my 24" bars on my large frame Dolmar's, 20" works for me.

I have a 20" on my MMWS6100 and I think it is plenty for the saw to pull in oak and beech.

I have a 18" 68DL on my PS-550 and my PS-7300, it's what they came with when I purchased them.
All my bars except two are .058", must be a market thing. o_O

My XS5000 is pulling 3/8" 20" 72DL fully buried bucking and noodling beech perfectly fine, but this saw does not fit the "small" category anymore after Kevin did his magic on her.

The chain is a nice gift to someone if You don't have any matching bar for it.
For those that are reluctant to claim the chain, You can run a .058" gauge chain perfectly fine in a .063" gauge bar.

My theory is the Dolmar is backup for the 395 in bigger stuff. Also, if cutting smaller stuff, more reach without bending.

I ran @SOS Ridgerider ‘s ported 6100 24” LW at a NY GTG and it seemed to balance and cut well.
Sounds good.

I don't know how a 6100 balances with a 24" LW bar, but my Makita XS5000 wants to tip over with a laminate 20" bar and the AV mounts are fairly stressed - 16-18" B&C would be nicer for the 5000/5105.
My Dolmar MMWS6100 balances and handles well with 20" LW B&C.
Maybe I should try the LW bar on my XS5000, never thought of that as I never swap main bars among saws. o_O

If @Mkinslow would be so kind as to draw one more name from his drawing for me, I will offer up this custom neck knife and sheath from knife maker R.F.Layton of Mercer Wisconsin who is no longer with us, so this knife is already a fine collectable.

Thanks, I figured why complicate the thread up more when there was already one going.
No problem, I'll just have my daughter draw one and my son can draw the other ,I still gotta figure out what/how to do something for the other knife I'm giving away. In case some of yall missed it, I'm do2 this year.
