Chains,sometimes they drive you nuts

So here I sit and Lawd only knows how many loops I have and I find myself running short on 72 driver loops of 3/8" .So off I go with the trusty 038 mag to attack a pile of white oak,the freakin thing doesn't cut worth a hoot,out comes the file.Not much better .

Baileys had some super saver deal on 3/8" chisel some time back for about 10 a pop .I ordered 5,worst mistake I ever made .Whatever they did to that stuff I have no idea .I've tried straight across,10 degree up,nothing .

I gave up once again as in the past and rooted around until I found a decent loop of Oregon and ran it ,no problem,big old chips like shooting out of a wood planer like it's supposed to .

It doesn't make an ouch of sense how they forked that stuff up so bad,I'm a half decent filer but I'll buckle down some time and figure this one out .I don't do business with the mentioned supplier but it's a cinch if I did I'd never again order any of that chain . --mumble grumble ---

If memory serves correctly, the Woodland Pro branded chain needed the rakers taken down right out of the package. Once brought down to .025" that chain will cut good for you I believe.

I have used near every chain brand and model I can think of, maybe not in every gauge but all major brands and pitches except some of Oregon's new stuff. Chinese made stuff etc. I have found some quality issues for sure but never have I not been able to make a chain cut acceptably. Not saying your in house chain ain't crap but that's my experience. Some chain will frustrate, its part of the game at least ya know what not to buy next time.

I recently had the same trouble with carlton semi chisel chain. I got to studying my sharpened teeth a couple days ago and realised there wasnt much hook to the teeth. it cut ok, but wasn't self feeding for crap. made nice chips but you had to push it through the wood. I use a husky roller guide to sharpen all my chain so I went and grabbed a .325 file (3/16) and gave each tooth a few strokes till I was out at the edge. ran that thing last night (562xp) again and wow, that was a good decision. first time this loop lived up to the saws potential. sometimes you just have to mess with stuff and figure it out.

Off topic, but about Bailey's. Ordered a new oem 372 piston and cylinder kit. Here is box I received in a box, not UPS's problem, outside box was in great condition. Called Bailey's and they will refund shipping. Kit was missing clips and arrived as shown. That's my last order with Bailey's. Not my first problem with ordering from them. Who do you guys use?

I haven't ordered from Baileys since my credit number were stolen through their site. To honest I am still gun shy of them.

Personally I have been ordering my Husky OEM chainsaw stuff through Jack's. Never had a problem with quality just slow as heck on shipping sometimes.

I also use Jack's and only issue is slooow shipping like you said. Also ordered a 372 kit from them and it was in original nice box, packed neatly and missing nothing. Live and learn.

Getchs a cheap grinder I have a harbor frieght cheap plastic one it'll make chain cut Any chain will cut if you can make it sharp Didn't intend to sound smart at all Even chinese garbage chain will cut fine when sharpened up. May dull quicker but will cut none the less. If it is woodland pro it should be a very good chain. May be a depth guage issue maybe you could pop up a photo and some of us fellas could get a good look an see what the problem is you're facing

Oh I'll get it when I find the time.no biggie just *b-worden about it .Probably what happened is they got a bunch of bum chain and discounted it by about 2 and half bucks a loop to get rid of it .

WP chain basically is Carlton chain - and my (admittedly limited) experience with those tells me that they need more than just that when new - the cutters aren't anywhere close to sharp either.

Nooooo! Not do that! Chuck it over here, I get lots of good mileage out of it. You just need a sharp flat file in a Granberg guide for the depth gauges. I refuse to chuck any chain that makes good chips. I even use some for milling on a 20" bar.

It will cut that is true. I hate dealing with depth gauges in general. Those are about the worst. I'll admit I took a belt sander to them before..... That chain is now only for large wood. I can't throw one away either CT

That is a fairly accurate observation that's when I belt sanded mine just too damn much material to remove to make it cut
