Did you center the crank after you put the case together to confirm that the crank spins freely and doesn't bind up anywhere?

i was thinking maybe my tach was just not reading right so i put it on another saw and it read just fine. i also read that sometimes if it is heald to close that it tries to reset while its reading and giving a low number.

If it's bouncing off the rev limiter, the tach will read improperly.

thats just it i can turn the h needle out and make it run crappy but when i turn it back in it doesnt ever wind up i can turn it in until it seats and never lean it out. for a split second the other day i got a max reading of 12, 813 on the tach but jumped right back down to 9200 or so. saw was warmed up and seems to run just fine and sounds like it is running like it should but turning the needle all the way until it seats with no change has me baffled wtf

I had a problem on a saw years ago. It wouldn't rev no matter how much I leaned it out. It had me stumped for weeks, then I changed the fuel filter and it came alive. The bloody fuel filter was limiting the fuel flow.

You mentioned it hit 12,813 and then dropped back. If the carb was full of fuel you could get a quick reading like that until the carb started to starve of fuel.

i can turn the H needle out and make it run super crappy
This statement is what tends to oppose a bad fuel filter. If you can turn out the high speed needle and get it to blubber, obviously you can get enough fuel. However, if you change the fuel filter and that isn't it, then at least that can be eliminated.

so i have figured out that with all of the covers and the felt filter it doesnt get enough air to rev up further than 9300 rpm when i checked it with the air cleaner cover off it went to 12700 without changing anything.

Mate, you may just have found the problem. Most of the air filters on these saws are marginal to begin with, if they start getting clogged they are hopeless.

I've had to build my own air filters or use a nylon mesh filter to get the best performance from my saws. Good luck.

i discovered what was wrong.......the answer.....im an idiot it was the gas i keep 100ll for my old pickup that is a 76 it likes the avgas. i mixed saw gas with it because i was out of gas and had forgoten. i dumped the gas out and put a new batch of gas in and it tuned just fine. so clearly the octain was too high

I recently discovered on a 266 that the nylon mesh air filter will 4 stroke 1,000 rpm higher than a recently cleaned old felt one. I cleaned the felt one again, more soak, will re test.

well that wasnt it either just a fluke. i have now changed out the flywheel and coil. i had a new unlimited coil and a different flywheel. the flywheel that was on it was missing the ring on the underside that looks like a magnet for heated handlebars

im on my second fuel filter i had a walbro felt filter but was sure that it would not have been the issue. i put on a new oregon version of the husqvarna filter

i will run it again tomorrow and see if the flywheel and coil was the problem. i was thinking that the coil must be whats not working but after seeing the inside of that flywheel im thinking that is probably the issue, unless there is just something wrong with the brand new carburetor.

well this morning it revs up like it is supposed to not sure if it was the coil or the flywheel but it went up to 13300 which is above the max for this saw i tuned it down to 12900 went and cut some kind of dry cherry that was big enough to bury my 32" bar in and it holds 9900 rpms in the cut and the chain is a little grabby finally

so after all of the bs to get this saw to wind up. after all of the trouble shooting and coming to the conclusion that it was either the coil or the flywheel it would still not stay tuned. i rebuilt the original carb last night and it seems to be working correctly. i know i sound like a fool sometimes but oh well. here is a video of it.
