I forgot to mention it is acting up. It has a bogg and will quit. Becomes hard to start too. Compression is crazy strong per usual so it is not an issue with top end. Line is new, will check clunk in tank and tank vent (gas cap removal didn't reveal a pressure relief or anything so vent is probably fine). Full throttle and she won't spool up.. boggs to quit. Will check everything well but I suspect carb finally developed an issue.

Off to some pruning jobs today. Will be chippin some brush.

I had an 026 that I was working on couple weeks ago that wanted to act like that. I rebuilt the carb thinking that’s what it was but turned out it was the coil. Would idle fine but not go to full throttle without bogging. Might be something to check also

Eric, you running ethanol gas? Or Efree?
Maybe check the plug?
I've had both in it. Also the lower end is probably fine new seals and bearings when Randy went through it. Interesting on the coil. I'll check it all out. Ordered carb kit since they are cheap!

Fuel filters get clogged up too, I've worked on a husky 257 that gained almost 1,000 rpm just from a new fuel filter. If you hold up a new filter to old one it's pretty easy to tell how clogged old one is.

There may be other things wrong, but most symptoms point to the carb. Hard to start is often the diaphragm becoming brittle, and high compression is almost always a sign of a carb leaking after shut down, causing hydro lock. A broken in saw just does not gain compression.

It's somewhere between to lean and to fat. Lol
Just gotta find the sweet spot. Lots of tweaking between the idle screw, L screw and even the H screw.
Much the same good advice for a woman. Not too lean and too fat. Keep screwing until you find the sweet spot.

Here is the 50 I ordered a kit for too just in case. Needed tuning today and got it running pretty well in the petrified oak I have out back. This saw has a new piston @mdavlee installed for my buddy Jim. Wouldn't idle and had bogg so I started rich (9000) and brought it in to about 12100 and got the L setup rough and it's doing pretty well. Needs some tanks to break in and I think she will be good!

I mentioned this in the 50/51/55 rebuild thread also since this saw is an early chassis of those and like the 51/55 makes power at 12500 and likes a bit rich to get power.

Cheers.

Nice Eric. I vote you President of the piss rev mafia! Lol
I accept the title with grace and grandure!
Sometimes it takes a second or two to see a peak on the tach. I get sick of resetting the "max" feature LOL. I need a t-shirt piss rev mafia...

Good deal. It went to right at 12k for me on my fuel.

Good deal. It went to right at 12k for me on my fuel.

Since Jim upgraded to that 262 I think he's going to give the 50 to his oldest son (in his 20's) as a birthday present. I'm glad he's holding on to this classic saw.

I'm going to try and hit our maple sugaring orchard tomorrow and get a tank or two through it. I was told there are some logs that need bucking into 24" lengths to be split later for use in the boiler. This means it's likely dead pine which ought to put a nice light load on the saw instead of me just piss reving the thing after burying the bar in petrified oak. I re-watched my video and can now see why @RI Chevy lists me as the prez of Piss Rev Mafia... Might play with the low needle a bit more to try and find that acceleration "sweet spot" although I think it's pretty good where it is. Saw went from unable to idle to smooth.

I'm running 32:1 klotz KL200 techniplate also Mike. I'll probably run some Tru Fuel 40:1 through it and re-check the H setting before handing it back to Jim.
