Better spikes on the Husky 550 MK2

The part number for only the outer spike is 578993201.

The kit for the Jonsered 2260 or Husqvarna 560, part number 576873003, is incorrectly supplied with the 562 outside spike (part number 577976301). This seems to be a packaging error by Husqvarna, as every kit I've seen has been incorrect.

Good job, one major reason I didn't use my mkI 550 compared to my MS261's was the pathetic little single spike. The Stihl a were easily upgraded by getting the ms362 double dawg kit/roller catcher. But I had to get a custom made bigger single spike from the US for the 550. I might do this, it's seems pretty easy.

I agree, the MK2 stock spike seems to be a little better but the MK1 and 562 stock small spikes have the lower point too high and with an odd angle that can't grip anything of decent size.

I think they changed the side cover. My about one year old 550 mk2 is not going to take the Husky dogs. I have the inner drawn up and will try to whack it out over the next week or so, then use that to trace the shape for an outer. Is there any reason I can’t just slip the outer under the bar nuts and be done?

The side cover was slightly different but the 560 spike still bolted up by slightly slotting one hole.

I wouldn't want one under the bar nuts because you'd loose the captive bar nuts.

The larger west coast ones that come with the full wrap.

Buy the kit and it if comes with the 562 outer spike complain and have them send the 560 outer individually.

I tried ereplacement parts and partstree and both sent me an email back saying it's NLA.

A good friend of mine just bought a cnc machine and a water jet cutter, I was going to ask him to cut some spikes for my 550mk2. The problem is I’m just a firewood hack/saw enthusiast and I don’t know what makes a good spike design. I’ll see him tomorrow and see how far along he is with setup.
Btw, what would be the ideal material and thickness of stock to use for something like this? As far as I can tell, these spikes would only need 2D cutting and wouldn’t require any stamping, right?
