Best raker gauge?

I use an Oregon style to check a few of the rakers and then I just take the same amount of swipes on each raker free hand and run it. This has worked very well for me so I will just keep doing it.

Yes, very quick and simple to change them out.
We also carry the replacement files.

Guess I need to start experimenting with raker height then measure it when I get the feel I like, then learn to eyeball it from there. Picked up an Oregon gauge on the way home today and it will take the rakers even lower than they are now.

I to have this file guide and incorporate it on my FG2. Does it matter that when you file down the raker it takes the original beveled or tapered edge that was on it and makes it flat/squared off?

Mike do you lay something across the cutters to eyeball the depth? Or completely eyeballed?

I measure occasionally like that with feeler gauges if I'm sending a chain out for someone.

That's how I do it. Check a couple and count my strokes.

That's an easy way. I don't remember the last time I did it. Usually I test in wood and change from there.

Most recommend rounding the front of the raker. That's what i do.

I do the same thing. I just try to make sure the front has a radius vs the corner that is left on it after filing with the gauge.

Got a guy at work that thinks like that, turns them hazardous leaners into big ol barber chairs, just can't keep up with the splitting.
