I’m looking for some advice on battery powered saws. Our fire department that I’m on is looking for a roof vent saw and thinking of a battery powered for its ease of use while perched on a roof.

We are also looking at a leaf blower to match up on the same battery platform.

Thoughts on Stihl or Milwaukee. I have t looked into other brands yet and we currently run Stihl saws.

Stihl's look very promising. Dewalt has 12" and 16" sized chainsaws with the 20V/40V/60V Max capable high amp batteries. Saw a few tests on them and they preformed great. They have blowers as well that use the same platform.

You can check out CPO Outlet for their current deals on tools and batteries.

Most of the battery powered chainsaws I have seen would compare to a 30 - 40cc gas chainsaw in terms of power. That's probably too small for a fire service vent saw.

However, at a trade show last year, I did see a large, dedicated vent saw with a circular blade that ran off of a special battery (sorry, no leaf blower compatibility). I don't recall the brand, but it was red or orange, so probably Husqvarna, Milwaukee, or Hilti. I would contact those guys, as well as fire service vendors for specialty tools, since your application is so specific, and other fire departments have also probably been looking. Maybe someone has one under development?

Good to know. We don’t have anything in dewalt lineup. Course we don’t have anything in Milwaukee either.

I did see some clips on the husqvarna 540ixp. Looked impressive.

This is our "battery" powered vent saw
Yeah, but the question was for battery powered saws. Examples:

*** Also sold by several fire service vendors as a kit with special venting blades, etc.

This was the one I saw at the contractor show, full 14" blades:
