1:1 !

Holy chit
He runs everything on 25:1 and dribbles a little extra oil in the tank of the 090's cause he thinks they need more oil.
HE admitted that this tank got more than a dribble so I spent the day giving him a hard time about running 1:1

Old smokey

Doing it all wrong. Needs to be bare feet, standing on the log and saw needs a minimum 36" [emoji12][emoji1360]

Seriously tho it is easier with a long bar. And de bark it. It just stuffed the chain unnecessary [emoji6]

I cant knock him...... it ran all day while my 090 spat the dummy after 6 cuts and just died mid cut like someone turned off the fuel
It starts and idles reluctantly but wont rev up at all. Just stalls out.

I was cutting and when it stopped we both looked puzzled then pizzed ourselves laughing.
Curse of the 090 we call it.

If you need to make 2 cuts, you need to bring 3 x 090's so you can take one home running

That 090 sounds horrendous! I'd suggest he sells it to me immediately before he blows it up

Joking aside it does sound pig rich, it should clear up in the cut, perhaps his governor spring is a little tight?

Yes I know
He likes to tune it rich so the muffler outlet is wet???
I let it go, made mine look fast until it spat the dummy and stopped ha ha

That's a whole new method of tuning on me, I'd hate to see the carbon build up on the combustion chamber!

Tomorrow I am heading out again, by myself this time and probably with my chainsaw apprentice and camera girl daughter.

The saw line up:

Stihl 038, bog stock rebuild after strait fueled
Stihl 038 ported, gasket delete and muffler mod.
Both 038's running identical chains
044 10mm ported
064 junk yard parts saw, ported
394, lightly ported and muffler mod
Both the 064 and 394 are running near identical chains but the 064 is 28", 394 is 30"

Plan to do some side my side videos of the 038's and my 044, and also run the 064 against the 394.

All the saws have been ground up rebuilt and ported (hacked) by me

The husky don't get to sit up on the table with the stihls he he

Be interesting to see how the ported 038 goes against the ported 044.
I'm more interested to compare the stock and ported 038's
I want to know how much better mu hacking is making them.
And yeah..... I don't need to take the 044 but its coming along just so I can run it against the 038's for sheets and giggles.

The 038's are not pretty but they are like new under the covers.
The stock one was strait fueled by a workmate so its been returned to stock just so it works again.
The ported one was found at the rubbish dump, tree crushed and left to rot. Was hardly run in once I broke it open and is now like a new saw with an old top cover.
Both have 20" bars and identical new chains that have had the same 4 wipes of the same file per tooth.

I cant wait to see if the ported one runs better. It sure does sound snappier.
Its the one thing a bloke learning to port saws wants to know

All saws getting run on 91 E free @ 32:1 with Castrol Activ 2T mineral oil

Had a great afternoon playing with saws
The stock went like a stock saw does.... well but lacking.
The ported 038 was much better.
After burning about a tank through each saw working them away from the cookie log, I'm calling the ported saw 20 to 30% faster easy!

My 044 ate them both for lunch

Really happy with the performance gains I am getting

Stock saw tuned to 12500
The ported saws are turning just under 15000

Edit:

Just times them
stock 038 between 5.1 and 5.4 seconds
Ported 038 between 4 and 4.4 seconds
Ported 044 between 2.8 and 3.5 seconds

Next up was the 394 to run next to my 064.

The 394 has had minimal work, just some light improvements and a bit of a muffler mod
The 064 has had a lot more work done

30" 3/8 full chisel on the 394
28" 3/8 full chisel on the 064
I actually backed off the 064 to 13500 rpm to get a comparison at similar speeds.

The 064 was holding between 10000 and 11000 rpm in the cut once I got into some bar deep work
