What is the goin rate for a 462 now? I hear of guys payin less, just curious. Seems the 572, 7900, & 462 are pretty close anymore

I got a 462 carb version for sale in Ads section for $950 shipped. I pay about 80-85 for shipping so the saw is sub-$900 PHO.
In Croatia they still cost the same as when they came out, and they are priced exactly the same as the 661

462 / 661 carb = 1305$
462CM / 661CM = 1335$

Makita EA7300 = 850$
Makita EA7900 = 932$

I'd take the 7300 over the Stihl not because I am biased but because I am not willing to support an overcharging manufacturer - earning honest money is too hard as it is.

Stihl Croatia will not sell to individuals and they just kick You off to Your local or closest dealer.
The local Stihl dealer will not go for any kind of wiggle room price wise claiming Stihl Croatia dictates pricing!
FINE, I'm taking my cash elsewhere!

I have seen them all well over a grand. While you may be able to get them cheaper if you know a guy...most are paying that.

Yep, and after the great state of Massachusetts adds their 6.5% sales tax its alotta money... right around 1200 clams. I really like the 462, it gets me hawt. Shame it's so pricey. @Wilhelm the poor stihl dealers in this area suffer because they have no wiggle room.

I take for granted how lucky I am that I pay what I do for stihl stuff.

The 462 is 1.5 lbs lighter than the other two. If you are going to use it to fell, buck and limb yard trees, it is worth every penny. I'm very familiar with the difference, it is like comparing it to a MS460. Good saws, but not so friendly for doing lots of limbing. And, the older you get, the truer that becomes.

Very happy with my 462, was using it yesterday, dropped 2 Red Maple and an Ash. I climbed up on top of brush piles to buck them (purposely dropped them on top of them), so I appreciated the light weight. I especially appreciated it in yesterdays heat … I was sweating badly enough with the 462!

I plan to use this saw for many years, so the additional cost is small. IMO, it is the perfect saw for a 20" light bar. Light, smooth, good torque range … a real nice overall saw.
From a PNW logger I had heard from, the balance and position of the front handle is more suited to east coast and European cutting conditions with regard to bar length. We typically run 28 to 36 inch bars out here on our 70cc saws. Balance with these longer bar lengths is not so good.

U guys are using the 462 with a 36”bar, what do u think about the handling compared to other/ older 70cc saws?
Im not as I don't log, however one logger had reported to me this was the only real negative to the saw. Personally, Stihls never really balance that well with longer bars. My 372 balances better than my 044 or 046 with 36" bars. My 395 balances better than my 066 with 36" bars. My 390 balances better with a 32" compared with an 066. Stihls are generally always nose heavy. The old 125 balances way better than an 880 when both wear 36" bars.

As far as the av goes it's not to bad. Not the same torque as as other saws, its powerband is at a higher rpm which is really nice when are doing a lot of limbing and bucking.
But for most of its life it will see a 28 inch bar just tree lengthing.

And that's what keeps each brand thriving in different areas. The stihl distributor for our area is what neuters the stihl brand. I jokingly asked a tech the last time I was at the shop that sells both brands how many 661 they had taken in with filtration issues. The fella said "couldnt tell ya...we sell 10 plus husky to one stihl. We sold 8 395s last week an 0 661."

Depends on the height of ones income, but for my miserable pay something like the following.
20% retirement deductions before tax from the bruto pay.
0% for minimal tax free pay amount, 24% for any amount exceeding the tax free amount and up to a preset amount after which another tax percentage applies.

Looking at bruto and neto on my paycheck the government is taking an average of 1/3.

I’ll have to agree with @HYPERSAWS that it handles the 36” lightweight bar alright as far as AV goes, but not my choice power-wise. The 7900 is handling the 36 better power-wise, but worse in the AV department if that makes sense. Like @HYPERSAWS said, my 462 will see a 28” bar on it generally. Above that, and I prefer a different power-head.

I don't disagree with your comments, but note that I'm running a 20" light bar, so with that setup, some folks opinions may be different.

I've got 28" bars on my MS460 and my Hybrid.
